Criminal records ARE on one record, but anyone can access that information, thanks to the freedom of information act.

When was the last time such a weapon was used in any mass killing in the United States of America?

I'd like to see the banning of all guns in avatars. Maybe body armor can stay.

Yeah, it's sooo difficult to change barrels out, and hell, if you're going to commit a crime with a gun, why use your own when you can steal one?

And hell, naturally a national registry of guns is the necessary next-to-last step before King Obama, Fascist and Traitor, or one of his clones, steals them.

Look... I generally see/hear two kinds of people on this issue:

    1. Those whose believe we should RESEARCH, pull in new data, think about this HARD and try new things.

    2. Those who believe that ALL they must do, is defend the paradigms many have adopted from what they think is the proper 'interpretation' of the 2nd Amendment.

In my view, without greater and further research and implementation of policies based upon the same (and some COMMON SENSE we've deliberately ignored, for whatever reasons)... I would not 'say' which "laws" will do what. All I know, is that I'm STRONGLY opposed to Americans that think we should do nothing, until we have 'perfect' answers or those who think we should do nothing period. Yes, I'm AGAINST them and will likely be for the rest of my life.

To me, that is just the beginning. But I agree with those things, for sure.

All or nothing perhaps is the answer? Either give everybody flamethrowers, heat seeking missiles, and grenade launchers, or, not.

Johnny the problem is people on your side of the issue aren't interested in the literally tons of information out there that contradicts your viewpoint. Gun bans don't work. About the only thing you can change is the preferred implement of murderers and that doesn't really work all that well. If we can't keep cocaine out of the country what makes you think we can keep guns out of the country? Britain with a massively smaller coastline couldn't keep the IRA from smuggling in weapons up to and including 3 inch mortars.

Yeah right Fraudster you need to use a flame thrower inside your house... By the way dude there is a reason the military don't use flamethrowers any more.

That's right DagDag we needa no fly list for guns, that works so well for aircraft in a country with several thousand Smiths many with the same first name and the same middle initial. We now have people who can't fly because they ahve a similar name to some assclown they've never met.

Continuing with garyd's statement, if you searched my name for records in the criminal database, you wouldn't find any. Why? Because I've never been locked up, arrested, or spent a night in jail. Further to the point, I've never been in a mental institute, whether it's court ordered or voluntarily. In which case, if we are to based everything off of this criminal record, that is apart of the 'Freedom of Information Act', how would you know if I'm legally qualified to own a gun? Are you just going to assume that I'm not a criminal or have mental health issues, because there's no records, and sell me the gun? Of course not, you will have your doubts, rightfully so, because you don't know who I am and what I've done in my life.

Thus, going back to my original point (Again, not understanding why I need to spell this out for you), an updated and valid NICS system is ABSOLUTELY required. This will ensure that all of the information, on me or anyone else, is valid data that will ensure you have a great base of information on me. It's a read-only database, you enter in my information, just like you would if you were looking for me in a criminal database, the NICS system would simply state 'Approved' or 'Not Approved'. A criminal database won't tell you that.

However, being of a libertarian mindset, if you wish to push for that, go right ahead. I can tell you exactly where I will buy most of my guns at then (Hint, it won't be at any FFL). If everyone's aim, which I would imagine it is, is to get these guns out of criminals & mentally ill folks hands, what you're proposing isn't going to solve that problem. Push for a law that states every state must submit information to the FBI so it can be included into the NICS system. Open up the system to everyone and allow them to run background checks against the individual. From there, the state can regulate how they wish to enforce the law (IE: Wait period, gun registration, etc).

I just gave you something that makes sense and you tell me it's already there. Then you wonder why no one wants to push for any type of legislation, because we know someone is just going to fumble that ball on the 1 yard line and the other team is going to pick up the ball and we'll back in the same scenario as we were before. Then you will tell us how we need even tighter legislation to fix that issue, and the never ending cycle of more legislation, less freedom, continues to rise.

BAD Idea. Think about some of those people around you and then put a gun in their hand, no thanks I will pass on the idea.

Not only that, I disagree with it from a coercion stand point. What if someone doesn't want to own a gun? Now you've forced them to buy one, whether they want to or not. Kennesaw, Georgia has this type of law. While crime rates have dropped, significantly, I don't believe it should be forced upon people to buy a gun either (http://rense.com/general9/gunlaw.htm). It should be their choice in the matter.

I disagree. If everyone knows that everyone has a gun then they'll know if they use their gun for any purpose other than self defense that their death is a certainty. Fear is a very strong tool.

    Just ask the media.

Let me ask you this would you want every here on this board walking around with a gun, I know I wouldn't want that. And as another poster mentioned, not everyone wants to carry a gun. The same goes for open carry, I or you may be fine doing so, I have, but a little old lady or whimpy guy might simply become a target for someone that wants the gunb and they will take it away from them and either use it on them or someone else, there are not always others around to help. No, I believe in concelled licences, I have ,and those that have them should have to show a certain level of ability, but everyone carrying one would only make matters worse. I have run across more than one person that owns guns that probably should not since if anything they are more of a danger to themselves and those around them than to any criminal out there, the idea of everyone carrying is simple insane to me.

So you either live next to a police station, are a 6'4 martial arts expert, or are a criminal.

The only "need" for guns is self defense. The rest is just pleasure.

And any smart criminal will run a file down the barrel of his pistol...... It would take about 30 seconds to change the ballistic fingerprint, making the database useless.

    - - - Updated - - -

The ballistic fingerprint of a gun can be changed (at least to the level of reasonable doubt) by using a file in about 30 seconds.

I support a three month waiting period (maximum) before a convicted capital murderer, career violent felon or other such nuisence creature is hanged. Appeals should never be allowed to be longer---as that is an unconstitutional excess of "fair and speedy" due process.

Generally, those who use barbaric instruments such as knives and chainsaws deserve greater punishment than those who put a few neat holes in their victims with guns.

    Other.

I think background and psychiatric tests should be necessary to buy guns.

I support no form of gun control.

However, I do not view restricting specific cases of mentally ill or felons from owning any weapons as any form of gun control, but laws specific to those areas instead. Any normal, rational American should be able to own any gun they wish, without restriction.

How, specifically, does owning 1 ounce of pot disqualify someone from being capable of owning a firearm?

For god's sake do you have to go to the absurd? I don't support illegalizing drugs either, ok, but you know very well what his point is.

In every case where a felon doesnt deserve to own a firearm, in my fine opinion, their prison sentence should exceed their life.

I wouldn't care what the sentence is, if you were convicted of a violent crime using a firearm I would not allow you to own a firearm, at least for a period of time, as you would have demonstrated you are abusing your right in order to commit crime.
