But the modern northern Germans aren't descendants of Angles ( though I think they are Saxon). The Jutes also are part of the Anglo Saxon makeup, BTW, and they were from what is now Denmark. Anglo Saxon and Germanic are quite distinct.

My parents and I were in this group. During that time, the first non UK citizens were Latvians (blue eyes/blonde hair). Southern Europeans especially Italians and Greeks migrated in mass to Australia. In the 1960s-70s it was the Yugoslavs, Spanish/Portuguese and Eastern Bloc countries. Lebanese have also been migrating to Australia since the 1970s. The largest Mosque in Sydney is Lebanese run and former President of the Islamic Society of Australia is Lebanese

The White Australia Policy was canned by the Whitlam government in the early 1970s, allowing Asians (especially Vietnamese) into Australia. In the 1980s-90s it was South Americans. Chileans make up a largish portions of South Americans. Now, more Africans and Middle Easterners are migrating to Australia.

Most Caucasian Australians are Europeans. More people immigrated to Australia from the European mainland than the British Isles.

Stupid question and poll. Too many variables and there is no one single ethnic Caucasian group better than any other.

 

The poll is not really racist. It is, however, built on the faulty premise that there is such a thing as a biologically discoverable 'white' population group, or, more fitting to the mindset of the pollster, 'white race'. In biology, people that would be considered part of the 'white' skin are classified as having lighter skin pigmentation, in which the genetic and phenotype variation surrounding such a trait varies extensively from individual to individual, and, on a broader level, within a select population group. You cannot throw people all people with lighter skin under one label because then that distorts understanding of genetic and phenotype diversity of humanity. If the pollster asked which race is the best, then I would pull out the racist card. For now, I will simply call the pollster biased and irrational.

 

Ethnicities typically have cultures to go with it.

And? Ethnicity is entirely socially constructed. One ethnicity is no better than another, and to ask a question eliciting such a response is asking an individual to create a bias on irrational grounds. Besides, ethnicities can encompass almost any bigger or smaller social construct, from culture to linguistic dialect. It is almost impossible to actually determine what is an ethnic group and what is not an ethnic group, as ethnic groups are in constant flux. This is one of the many flaws of the anthropological discipline of ethnography, a subject I hold dear to my heart as a person who studies international relations and affairs via anthropologists.

I wonder if it's because Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity. I work with an Irish Jew, born and bred in Donegal.
