There are already laws and ways to address issues like that. One would be to require more than one opinion or doctor to be involved.

Also, to your point - there are doctors (like Gosnell) who will do them anyway and risk being charged with murder.

All we can do is punish them if and when they are caught.

And again, laws against rape and molestations don't keep those perps from doing their crimes either so unless you are claiming we should do away with the laws against rape and other molestations... I don't understand what you think your point is.

How many doctors? Two...Three? What if the two or three are all pro-choice and ALL agree to state that "in their medical opinion, the woman's life was threatened by carrying the pregnancy to term and an abortion was necessary".....even though they simpley believe it is her RIGHT to have an abortion regardless and thus use their concensus opinion to approve it under whatever law you can dream up?

You're saying that's an impossible scenario? That three pro-choice doctors couldn't form the basis of a life threatened-abortion required" concensus that your desired law would demand????

If not...how do you prove those three doctors were lying???

Sorry for the late replies. My Internet has been going in and out quite a bit -more out than in lately- and that made it difficult to post things without losing the entire post because it would disconnect on me.

Anyhow yes, I have come to terms that her problem with me is pretty much just her own problem and I have really left it at that. I won't deny I miss her friendship tho. Also I think I saw a few postings on here asking if she's religious and unless she had some kind of religious epiphany several months ago and converted I would say she's still definitely an atheist just as much as I am. I am not the type of person to make friends with the devoutly religious.

Personally I would say that if her position on abortion is more important that her friendship to you then it is a lost friend not really worth worrying about.

I am not religious, but as the bible says, Judge others least you not be judged.

On what moral pretense would any atheist defend life...on any level?

Value has no objective validity to them...value is purely subjective in the absence of a fixed system of morality...an insect has as much value to them as a human being...therefore I'm surprised your friend is all that concerned about someone else getting an abortion. I would assume it's the moral equivalent of swatting a mosquito to the "average" atheist.

Statistically, the atheist doesn't even value his or her own life for that matter...why would they care about someone elses unborn?
Fact ====> religiously unaffiliated subjects had significantly more lifetime suicide attempts and more first-degree relatives who committed suicide than subjects who endorsed a religious affiliation...

I am truly surprised your friend, if they're an avowed atheist as you claim....would care in the least if you had an abortion.
If they did care...certainly not enough to deem the friendship in jeopardy. Maybe there are issues deeper than what you are professing.

Who should decide what this "fixed system of morality" should be .. you?

and name me one single absolute moral?

Saying it is fact is about as convincing as the moon being made of green cheese .. so let us see the source of your "fact"

You mean like you do when you call them sluts and evil, unless it means calling someone in your own family that .. but of course they can make all that go away just by saying sorry.

Saying sorry does not automatically make somebody truly sorry.

I'm surprised you're surprised. It ain't like she'd be the first person to profess atheism because 99% of the religionists she encounters are at least a little bit crazy, after all.
