I thought progressives belonged to Marx's conflict theory school of sociology, but at times they are symbolic interactionists. Every meaning and symbol is defined by how society views and defines them. Obama's red line comment can now mean that it was actually the world's red line if society believes that. I agree, the credibility of the ENTIRE WORLD is on the line, but Obama, now believing himself to be a god, cannot be wrong. Yes, the international community has become the "congress" of his international policy...the "they won't let me" factor that absolves him of all responsibility. But, the fact is, Britain, the US's "closest ally" is politely saying no, the Germans are running the other way, Canada has said "good luck and thanks for all the body bags from Afghanistan" and Russia is becoming outright hostile. Obama flat out lied. There is no way around this. If he didn't want to look like a total idiot, he could have spun his words a little differently. Perhaps something along the lines of, "I did say there was a red line, but I assumed I was speaking for the UN".
After a couple weeks of having a stooge make the media tour saying he never set a red line, he will then come out and admit he did. (Benghazi/Rose garden/"act of terror"/"no, I meant video"/(2 weeks later) "oh I meant terrorism".)
