Try half a spoonful of Arm & Hammer baking Soda in a half glass of water.

Then increase dosage until you get relief or the gas pressure builds up so much you think you'll explode.

If things begin to get THAT bad, go to the emergency room.

    Funny, I agree with that.

The baking soda is a good idea. Then back off on the jalapenos.

Bicarbonate of Soda is a good solution, it could take about 10 minutes or so. If you can get it, Mylanta is great for that.

I have a major issue with excessive stomach acid and some horrible heartburn regularly. It's gotten so bad that I actually have difficulty swallowing because my lower esophageal sphincter is extremely inflamed and swollen from the excessive stomach acid so food does not pass through very easily. I've read online that the best thing for it is vinegar and even peanut butter. I tried the peanut butter one (eat two table spoons of it) and that helped a little bit to relieve pain instantly, but I haven't tried the vinegar one yet. My dad has apple cider vinegar which he will drink a few table spoons of to alleviate his heartburn, he says it works great. I really need to get some for myself already!

Try a little baking soda stirred in a glass of water. You will feel bloated at first, but start to burp and the relief is wonderful. It helps with indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach and nausea. You may have reflux, so the best thing is to eventually get to a doctor who can prescribe medication to reduce the stomach acid. Until then, there are over the counter medicines, such as Prilosec which work very well. That acid coming up though can eventually destroy the lining of the esophagus and/or lead to cancer of the esophagus, so it is important to get it checked.

Oh thanks, I will try the baking soda thing. I actually took a generic omeprazole for a while which really helped but the stomach acid problems just came back a month later. I have already seen a specialist for it too and they wanted like $600 just to put a tube down my throat to see what was wrong and I just couldn't afford it. My dad already has the same issue and he had surgery to fix the problem which worked for a year then came back and now he can't even throw up when he's nauseated or has food poisoning because of the surgery.

I've been trying to find some sort of household remedy to deal with it instead of going down the costly and not even guaranteed surgical path my dad took. =(

What I also need to do is lay off the acidic foods which cause a lot of the issue. I just love tomatoes though, but omg even eating ketchup now is painful. I cut out carbonated drinks completely as well because they hurt sooo much going down.

If you can get the endoscopy on the throat, it is worth doing so, as they can check for damage and see if there are any signs of cancer or pre-cancer. The generic stuff hasn't worked on me, but the over the counter Prilosec works really well. The baking soda is best as far as home remedies. Just be carefull not to put too much in, because the bloated feeling can be miserable. I thought I was going to die when I put a rounded tablespoon full in a cup. About a teaspoon full or two should do it. Also, this is good for short term and every so often, but I wouldn't make a daily habit out of it, because my father in law did it decades ago long term and my mother in law insists that is what led to his ulcer. I don't know for sure, but I have avoided long term use and using it often, just in case.

Nexium. I had a similar problem and tried dealing with it myself. Nothing worked as well as Nexium.

Oh, I did find that most of my symptoms improved when I got into shape. I haven't even had heartburn in months and haven't taken anything at all. If you are even a little overweight, losing weight might help.

Losing a bit of weight is very good for relief if you have an hiatus hernia - the loss of weight takes the pressure off and the symptoms go away. But as been said, an endoscopy is useful for checking that there isn't more to it than the hernia. Treatment of the hernia is problematic but it's up to the individual. A specialist I saw some years ago told me I had one, there was nothing else wrong (he let me look through the camera thing and I could see down my own oesophagus - just as well I was on a good sedative!). Later he told me that he could perform a procedure but that it wouldn't be permanent and was probably a waste of time. I didn't get it done. Watching what I eat - spicy food in moderation; watching what I drink - I love wine but it can cause a problem of acidity - and losing weight did the trick. But again, good to get checked out to make sure something more serious isn't going on.

Stay away from coffee, alcohol, fruit juices, spicy foods, and fatty foods. Get prilosec (omeprazole), nexium (esomeprazole), or anything else thats similar. I recommend that you take 40 mg of omeprazole for 3-4 months, then cut it down to 20mg for 3 months, then 10 mg for 2-3 months, and then stop. You have to do it like that so that your body has time to adjust to the level of acid your stomach produces and so that it can heal properly.

I've used the baking soda trick a few times and it worked well for simple (occasional) heartburn/indigestion. But I very much agree... hands down Prilosec is the best medication I know of, used regularly.

Making adjustments in ones dietary habits, can also surprisingly make a huge difference overall, as well. Obviously, it would depend upon the root cause. That said...

**Someone with persistent heartburn/indigestion, would be well advised to seek proper medical diagnosis from a gastroenterologist.**

I read a lot of health articles and into natural home remedies b/f I would take a pill.....

Apple cider vinegar is a very healthy drink and read that it's a good remedy for this problem. Take a couple spoonfuls every day, 1 in the a.m., 1 at night every day.....

    I wish you luck......
