You're wrong actually, there's been 3 National banks.. first one was created as a means to pay off the debt from the American Revolution. Second National Bank was created as a means pay off the debt incurred from the War of 1812 (it's funny you said 200 years ago considering it's basically the anniversary of that bank).. Ironically the biggest opponent of this bank was Andrew Jackson, the father of the modern day Democratic party. He got the bank closed and was actually the last president to pay off the entire Federal Debt.

Federal reserve act was a response to financial panics and bank runs. Congress taxes the people, IRS just collects those taxes.

    Another interesting note about Jackson...

He was a tough SOB and aggressive which lead his opponents to refer to him as "the jackass." He liked this moniker and used it as his symbol. It caught on and is now the symbol of the modern day Democratic party.

    Gotta love the internet.

It is to me unless you think I enjoy writing $1200/mo. checks to United HealthCare for crap coverage.

The only way to address the debt is through tax increases. His hands are tied by irresponsible people such as yourself.

Looks like the President took Ted Cruz's advice.

Its been really amazing to see how many people think causing a default would have been good for the country.

Its just sickening. But guess what...they lost along with their suicidal nutjob tea party congressmen. Hopefully the country wakes up and gets these ignorant tea terrorists out of office before they do more damage to the country.

The wacko birds' objectives are now twofold:

    1) Claim that what happened to them was a victory.

    2) Find someone to blame for what happened to them.

Meanwhile, Boehner probably wishes he were a catherd.

It was the nearly 1 year of committee hearings, legislative mark up in committee (both parties present), the over 150 amendments suggested by the Republicans that actually made it into the final bill. You know, that kind of trickery.

In all seriousness, you look at what's going on in this country right now and say that? You simply couldn't imagine how delusional that seems to anyone who can look at things objectively at all.

Our National Debt. The Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling and spend even more of your kids, grand kids and great grand kids future. As long as you're OK with them living in abject poverty or shedding their blood fighting off the countries we owe money to, come to our soil to collect. Good for you.

That selling point worked out so well for you in 2012. I love coming here after events like these to see just how delusional the Conservative base has become.

Guys, I think the house vote was actually skewed (by 0bama, of course, of the White Hut)--the Government shouldn't reopen! Let's go protest with some 'don't tread on me' flags in Washington DC!

Seriously though, the best outcome of this GDP shaving, idiotic political theater is that Ted Cruz is done. Over. The financiers of the GOP gave him and his Heritage Action brethren a shot--and they colossally blew it.

Yep, that's big. We should work on that.

But to put that in perspective, our economy is around $12 trillion.

To put *that* in perspective, many homeowners have a mortgage that is two to three times their income. So we could have a significantly higher debt and it wouldn't be a major issue relative to the size of the economy.

To be clear, I want the deficit (and eventually the debt) reduced, for moral reasons if nothing else. Constant structural deficits are a bad idea.

But it's not a crisis yet.

Maybe the US could just call in all the loans from the First and Second World Wars, the accrued interest must be astronomical.

Andrew Jackson engineered the genocide of the native population through bogus treaties that he would immediately break. Lincoln spoke out against him as a congressman, but eventually caved and supported the practice,
Despicable, but these facts are probably why you like them.

They're so delusional. Did they really think Americans were that stupid to believe them that it was the Democrats fault for the shutdown? They started scampering when they saw their ratings drop down to the lowest they have ever been.

They can now thank Cruz and her co-hort Sarah Palin for the whipping they'll be getting! Bwahahaha.

No, libs making sure that millions of people will have access to health care, and that those furloughed without pay on account of Republican shenanigans are able to go back to work and recover what they lost, if they can.

The net result for the GOP is that they appear weaker and more divided than ever.

I think Bush was a big spender also.

But the debt has doubled since Obama took office making the problem much more urgent now.

Libs will use any excuse to keep the spending orgy going since they do not have to pay for it.
