It seems as though there have not been many posts about women’s issues. While I am not a woman, I love and respect them and am sickened by what some grumpy old misogynists advocate with regards to women’s reproductive and other rights. Therefore, I thought that I would shake that tree. Prediction: responses that agree there is a war on women vs. those defending the miscreants who wage that war will NOT fall along gender lines, as there are many conservative women who have been brainwashed, or are in denial about what’s happening. Others, I suspect, actually agree with these policies. :machinegun:

Let’s start with a recent story from Michigan that caught my eye:
In a charged hearing Wednesday, Michigan Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer told the story of her own rape and called the legislation “one of the most misogynistic proposals I’ve ever seen in the Michigan Legislature,” according to the Detroit Free Press. The fact that women are required to plan in advance to have an abortion, Whitmer said, “tells women who are raped … that they should have thought ahead and bought special insurance for it.” http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/michigan-passes-rape-insurance-bill

And it’s not just about family planning and abortion rights…….here is a list that includes nutritional assistance, preschool, and housing, and health care http://pol.moveon.org/waronwomen/ It’s clear that there is also a war on the children. They are perfectly fine with denying necessities of life and education to the same children who they so vehemently want to save from abortion. And, the fact many of these efforts by Republicans failed, does not negate the reality that there is in fact a war on women, children and families……not to mention the middle class.

Republicans not only want to reduce women's access to abortion care, they're actually tried to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't yet. Shocker. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/01/republican-plan-redefine-rape-abortion

A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain "victims." http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/02/07/georgia.rape.law/

In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.) http://www.cbsnews.com/news/south-d...cs-say-it-invites-murder-of-abortion-doctors/

Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/14/gop-budget-food-aid_n_876528.html

In Congress, Republicans have a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life. http://jezebel.com/5849839/house-passes-let-women-die-bill-after-extremely-depressing-debate

Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids' preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/02/16/144869/gop-women-kids/

And at the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool. http://www.northjersey.com/communit...put_Head_Start_in_North_Jersey_in_a_bind.html

Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/fina...n-senior-citizens-budget-cuts-affect-elderly/

Congress just voted for a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/hous...-parenthood-federal-funding/story?id=12951080

And if that wasn't enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans. But Republican Dan Burton has a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. You can't make this stuff up). http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2011/02/16/votes-contraception-wild-horses-women-0/

And while we're talking about wars......
How about the war on sanity::eyepopping:

•Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said that the Bible was the “manufacturer’s handbook” and that it “teaches us how to run all of public policy and everything in our society.”
•Rep. Loy Mauch (R-Ar.) said “nowhere in the Holy Bible have I found a word of condemnation for the operation of slavery, Old or New Testament. If slavery was so bad, why didn’t Jesus, Paul or the prophets say something?”
•Rep. Roger Rivard (R-Wisc.) recalled his father’s warning that young women may claim to be raped when they don’t want to admit responsibility after getting pregnant. “Some girls,” Rivard recalled his father saying, “they rape so easy.”

•Rep. Jon Hubbard (R. Ar.) wrote in his new book, Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative, “the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise.”
•Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) attacked his opponent Tammy Duckworth in a debate by showing a picture of her picking out a dress for the Democratic National Convention.

And who can forget the old classic by the godfather of Bat Crap Crazy Republicans everywhere:
•Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mis.) – “From what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Mr. Akin said of pregnancies occurring from rape. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Oh, you mean political correctness? The idea that all truths that offend anyone must not only be declared untrue but must be completely erased from the public dialogue? The idea that feelings are more important than facts? The idea that basic cognitive reasoning, critical thinking, and common sense are all acts of bigotry? Yes, let's discuss this war on sanity. I get the impression you're probably on the wrong side of that one too.

Perhaps I would take the whole notion that there is a conservative War on Women seriously if it weren't for the demonization of conservative women by liberals. It pretty much started with Phyllis Schafley and continues on with pretty much every conservative woman including Ann Colter, Michelle Bachman, and let us not forget what a certain conservative hating MSNBC anchor said about Sarah Palin. You can't have it both ways. You cannot claim their is a conservative war on women while calling every conservative woman deranged, stupid, a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*), or a lunatic.

But of course, that really isn't what this thread is all about. Liberals are getting beat up over that steaming pantload of legislation known as Obamacare, so this is just dredging up the same small minded drivel that didn't resonate the first time around. I'm sorry, you aren't going to change the subject about today's only salient issue, Obamacare. What will change is who will control the Senate.

I see that you and others here are passionate about ending abortion. Of course what you mean is to end legal abortion. Right? That, however will not end abortion. It will just mean that women will bleed to death with coat hangers in them, or have their insides burned out with chemicals. It will just mean that those who can afford it will be able to seek out a reasonably reputable and capable abortionist and those who can't will either get the back ally treatment, or wind up with an unwanted child that they are unable to care for financially or emotionally, who will wind up neglected or abused and eventually in foster care and later prison.

I don't like abortion either. I've experienced it and it is not good for anybody, But as a liberal, I see it as a necessary evil that can't be totally eliminated. I do think that it can and should be minimized by meaningful sex education, the availability of birth control, and supporting you people in a way that they feel good about themselves and their future. We can also minimize abortion by assuring people that if they carry that child to term we as a society and a nation will be there for them with financial aid like food stamps and other nutritional programs, with affordable pre school and day care programs, with housing assistance.

Too many pro life people are not really pro life but rather pro fetus. When it comes to prevention of pregnancy or programs for families with children they get stupid real fast. I can respect real pro life people if they are truly pro-life even if I don't agree with them. So how do you respond to the other issues that I raised…are you pro life or just pro fetus?

We do not demonize all conservative women. For instance, I liked Olympia Snow but she was run out of town by the right wing nuts. The women who you mentioned are in fact woman deranged, and stupid

Of course. It cannot possibly be the demonization of conservative women by liberals. Thanks for proving my point, a litle tokenism aside.

No I'm not talking about political correctness. I'm talking about common decency and common sense. You agree with these idiots..? OMG!! You should try some critical thinking....think about how offensive these statements are to the vast majority of THINKING people. At least a couple of them are not in office because of that. Why don't you run for office as a tea publican and take these positions and see what happens.

So what do any of you points have to do with the OP. My guess is you cannot or will not defend them on merit. Honestly this is why Republicans will continue to lose female votes.

How about those Texas Vagina searches?

Here is the long version, uncut. Notice the trooper doesn't change gloves after diving in tha anus and vagina of one girl, and then continuing to to do the same to the next girl. Big lawsuit against Perry & his state of texas. I wonder if he is praying for more rain?

LOL! Certainly is hate of women!!!! You are nailed, the truth defeats you like you will be defeated in 2014. The point is, you won't have to wonder why you lost next time, that is if you can remember that far. Many cons can't remember.
