Odd interpretation of the word. "Tasteful" isn't an inherent feature of flamboyance. Unless its an entertainer, its almost always used in a negative fashion. Especially when used to describe someone in a classroom as a student, place of business or anywhere else a higher level of decorum is expected.

Bit sensitive, are we? My rights of using proper descriptive language (ie, of free speech) end where your sensitivity begins. What a wuss. Totalitarian wuss, but a wuss all the same.

Oh I suspect they are terrified of being scorned, or even sued for discrimination against gays and the thought of being sued by the terminated substitute teacher hasn't crossed their mind.

Nope it wasn't right to fire you.

I am, however, surprise that you didn't know your students enough to recognize that he was gay. Still, you didn't deserve to be fired.

Do y'all see what's going on here? Liberals are burning the dictionary in this thread. They tried most earnestly to convince us that they were against burning books. Illiberal, intolerant (and tediously predictable) liberalism on display.

You sure about that counselor? What jurisdiction are you licensed to practice? You don't know all the operative facts. For example, what if there was a promise of a specific term on which OP relied? What if OP has some disability or there were other irregularities in their treatment in this workplace that could lead to other claims such as retaliation, hostile workplace, sexual harrassment? What if termination procedures weren't followed? What if there is an employee manual or policy documents that may form quasi-contract? We don't know these and many other important details, and I don't suggest OP go into that here, but see some employment attorneys in that jurisdiction.

Sorry, but this isn't sound analysis. We don't know all the operative facts at play here. Some offenses carry statutory damages, some carry double or treble damages, there could be the possibility of punitives. Only an experienced lawyer in such matters in the jurisdiction in question can make a proper assessment once they have all the operative facts. Few lawyers charge for initial consults these days, so I can't imagine that consulting local attorneys would be a waste of time for OP.

This reminds me of a case were a teacher used the word (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)rdly and was fired for uttering a racial slur.

Update to this post - I see the word I used (meaning miserly) has been edited out proving this web side is ignorant of the English language. Next thing "flamboyant" will become (*)(*)(*)(*)(*).

    Interesting comment!

    So...

    You...

    A) Believe the Union actually protects people who SHOULD be fired from being fired, or...

    B) Believe the Union is anti-gay.

    Which is it, Cdnpoli?

Racial Discrimination against Whites, is still just Racial Discrimination.

Sexist Discrimination against Men, is still just Sexist Discrimination.

False Accusation and Prosecution against Conservatives, is still just False Accusation and Prosecution.

Sneered Pejoratives and Intimation Threats against TEA Patriots, is still just Sneered Pejoratives and Intimation Threats.

When ever a Republican/Conservative commits Racial Discrimination or Sexist Discrimination or False Accusation and Prosecution or Sneered Pejoratives and Intimation Threats, Everyone, including other Republicans/Conservatives recognizes those actions as unjust, illegal, ugly, and intolerable.

When a Democrat/Liberal/Socialist commits BLATANT Racial Discrimination or Sexist Discrimination or False Accusation and Prosecution or Sneered Pejoratives and Intimation Threats, a few of the braver Republicans/Conservatives will call those actions what they are, and the rest sheepishly cower and say nothing.

The Lefties then Swarm down upon those few braver Republicans/Conservatives with a cloud of pejoratives, false accusations, intimidation threats, and outright LIES.

And MSM press then ignores the original abuses by the Democrat/Liberal/Socialist, and proceeds with hours of coverage questioning why we have allowed such horrible Republicans/Conservatives to continue to exist within our midst.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was young, and JFK led the Democrats, there were a few Liberals who acted like that, and even a few Republicans who acted like that, but when they got noticed, they got shut down by the more honest, honorable and dignified people within their own party.

The Democratic Party of my youth was NOT like this!

I would never have joined the party if it were.

    What the Hell happened!

Why have we put up with it?!

Do we Americans really want Fascism?!!!!!!

    Americans are better than this!

Agreed. Hard to note it when you're new and learning two to three dozen new faces. Additionally, he should be focused on doing the teaching job, not trying to spot the political correctness landmine personalities within the student body.

This is OUR fault, for putting up with Political Correctness for as long as we have. It is well past time to Shut the Lefties down.

    Was it his first day?

If it was. . . it seems that he was a little quick to judge "constant" flamboyance!

How many hours did it take for the posters on this thread to learn that Cdnpoli has ... "Needs"?

Someone acting out badly enough is quickly self-identified.

It is the PC police run amuck. They have hijacked the dictionary and reassigned meanings of words. Sad and pathetic. But hey, keep voting liberals into office and this crap will continue and get worse. Reject this garbage and start speaking out against liberals and voting them out. Then we will return to a more acceptable degree of normalcy.

You're grasping at straws and stating desperate nonsense.

If the OP told the whole truth there is not a shred of prejudice.

Stop trying to defend PC when you have failed from post one to be accurate.

Could you not try to abuse the forum rules to threaten those who you disagree with...

Read the whole thread, and you'll see that my comment is EXACTLY on topic! ( Though I suspect you already know it, and are simply once again manipulating when you cannot otherwise debate)

When a Conservative says "Zero Tolerance" it is spun as Intolerance, pig hotheadedness, Ignorance, and bigotry.

When a Liberal says "Zero Tolerance" it is spun as a Noble Stand...

    Go Figure.

Progressive justice where the English language is turned into "code words".
