Russia is near to a total economical collapse, "Standard & Poor's has cut Russia's rating to one notch above "junk" status." so Obama, Karry & C. are not that useless as many here think,?

“What we’re seeing now is a pretty permanent exodus from Russia, and it will be very difficult for the Russian central bank to fight it,” Lars Christensen, chief emerging-markets analyst at Danske Bank in Copenhagen, tells Bloomberg News. “The central bank is very much between a rock and a hard place. They frankly seem quite desperate in their actions.”

Even Without Sanctions, Russia's Economy Is Looking Sicklier Than Ever

The ruble, the second-worst-performing currency among developing countries this year, continued to lose ground today, trading above 36.01 against the dollar.

    waiting for monday:roll:

But I think that's nothing to do with `total collapse`.
Default is not the `total collapsation`. And it is distant enough. But approatching.

Well, in each event there is something good. The fact that rouble has dropped can result in two positive things:
    1. Export can increase.
    2. The people will start to use more local things than the imported ones, and this stimulates the local industries.

A recent good example was a situation with drop of euro with respect to swiss franc. Switzerland was worried very much that noone will buy their products and noone will go to Swiss resorts. And this is actually happened-many people from Europe now prefer to go to Austria or Italy to ski, instead of Switzerland.

The Russian oligarchs should pull their money out of the British banks, and Putin could laugh as they crash. It would serve them right for bowing down to U.S. demands. What if Russia stops the gas flow into Ukraine for non payment, wouldn't that hurt the Ukrainian people and especially the industries in the East? Wouldn't this also force Ukraine to tap the pipelines, and wouldn't they be forced to cut into the gas going to Germany and other nations in the E.U.? Seems to me the neo cons like George Soros, who are in control of our government are opening a Pandora's box. Russia might be forced to retaliate by going off the petrodollar, and that would spiral the world into a depression.

Hmmm! When Obama was running for president, he was suspected of being the antichrist; the culmination of all evil? Well one never knows?:oldman:

Good theory. For it to work the country must have highest quality goods and services competitive on the world market. Switzerland has plenty, Russia has none...lest we forget that sanctions may just as easily restrict the access of russian goods to western markets. Sorry but what works for Switzerland is a very poor recipe for Russia.

If the E.U. would have allowed Greece to rejoin the Eurozone, it would have pulled out and dropped its currency a long time ago. Today they wouldn't be in debt and the people would have been a lot better off. What Putin is hoping for is that the sanctions will frighten the Russians who have off shore accounts, and hopefully they will put their money back into Russia. I know Britain was panicky about the Russians pulling their money out of their banks. .

Borat, but there are not only western markets for export exist. South America, for example, or India. And the fact that the devaluation of the local currency may stimulate the consumption of the local goods is valid not only for Switzerland, but also for other countries-I think this should be is a general principle.

Agree. Ukraine should look to what happened to Greece when it joined EU. I strongly believe, that if Greece stayed away from EU, it would not be in the hard conditions as now.
