Yes! And then again, no. When all you have running for office are variations on the running theme of self-serving scoundrel or scoundrel and half insane ideologue (both main parties) then your hands are tied. Oh sure some people vote third party or just fold their hands and refuse to vote at all, and neither of which matter, because the bulk of people who do vote are going to vote for one of the two main parties (straight party ticket) or for the 'best' of a bad lot of candidates (mostly from the two parties with a few 'good for the soul' throwaway votes for third party candidates.

It's no good saying that it's the fault of the people because that's the same thing as wagging your finger at a predator for being a predator or a herbivore for being a herbivore. Within a certain framework of latitude, people do fit personality stereotypes -- the full range of noble and utterly iffy habits and thought processes included. So since people are not going to change past a certain point the only thing that gives a given system of government any hope for NOT turning into a tyranny or a madhouse asylum is the systems of checks and balances installed by the founders and as added to over the decades and centuries. That's pretty much it.

So it's not that we get the government that we deserve as we get the government that the checks and balances system makes possible to occur over time. Sigh! It makes me wish that I was still a drinker. It really does.

    Wages are not arbitrary!

If you have stills that are not valuable to the market place, you won't earn much.

    If you do, you will.

This whole argument is based on non-sense. Cool story... I think I am worth $250,000.00 per day in the market place. Pay up. My validation and justification would be the same as theirs.

I am starting to see the problem. You worked for an organization that did establish arbitrary wages detached from market wages. I can see how you would be confused.

I guess the skills it took to hold down that job were few, and many people were qualified.

Either align yourself with my liberal views, or you will be subjected to my liberal policies.

    No. (*)(*)(*)(*) that.

I don't want to pay for government programs, nor do I think that wages should be artificially set.

If somebody doesn't make enough in the market place, go obtain education or experience which increases their value. Why would anybody advocate for keeping people at a low value and paying them like they aren't? No wonder this country is falling apart. Because people like you keep rewarding people for failing to excel.

No we won't. Because you can't incentivize everybody to improve. Some people make poor choices. Some people don't have ambition. There will always be low paying jobs, and they will earn exactly what they are worth.

And a growing society, with a healthy economy needs to incentivize ambition, risk, and development. Why would you want to stop people from doing that?

If you don't want to have babies don't have sex and gentlemen if you don't want to help raise what you helped create keep you penis in your pants and not her pants. I'm tired of leftists who act like sex is the only thing in life and libertarians that think there are more of them than there are of Christians when conservative Christians alone outnumber them three to one every where but the WWW.

I’m so sick and tired of people ragging on people demanding a living wage. Most of Walmarts employees qualify for food stamps. I worked for a city where the wages were so low that a third of their employees could qualify for food stamps. We can either pay these people a living wage or continue to subsidize these low paying organizations employees with our TAX DOLLARS through Government programs like FOOD STAMPS. I’ve heard all the arguments , get a better education and get a better job. FINE, we finally reach a point where everyone has a Phd ,then whose going to cook your fries, dig the ditches for your Utilities, and build your roads etc, etc, etc. A society has to have people of all educational levels and experience to function properly and they deserve a FRIGGIN LIVING WAGE TO DO THESE ESSENTIAL JOBS !

How about this . . . Anyone that even THINKS that a person can raise a family of four on "fast food wages" is nuts. First of all, what looney would TRY to raise a family of four in such a irresponsible fashion? The more kids=more government subsidies routine? Only an irresponsible dreg of life would agree that something so insanely stupid would work in the real world.

Do you honestly believe that any man or a woman can in all reality raise a family of four on burger flipper wages? Even they know that this is an impossible equation. But yet it continues . . .why? The whole cycle of getting knocked up, left without an education, welfare and the whole nines. Know what? My wife's mother raised two kids on a housekeeper job making minimum wage and was still able to send the two to college for not a law degree at Harvard but at the minimum an associates degree. One sibling works at Lehman College and the other one is an administrator at a not for profit extended care home in Tampa.

It is not all about sitting around collecting what you think YOU deserve, but getting out there and being responsible in life. My mother always told me, "You made your bed, now lie in it".

No one in their right mind thinks that they can get ahead in life, "stuck at the bottom of the income ladder, but they think that they can survive". If they think so . . . then Waaa, waa, woe is me.

    markets don't always determine wages.

when more people need jobs than jobs available, business's tend to take advantage and hire at lower wages.

And when there is a labor shortage people tend to take advantage for higher wages. Weird how that works out.

Except that for 40 years the Federal Reserve has made a practice of raising interest rates any time the unemployment rate drops below 5% to slow economic growth and keep wages artificially low. So while your belief works in theory it no longer works in the real world.

And for millions of Americans the only thing "getting more training" does is leave the ambitious saddled with student loans.

Everything that has gone wrong in this country for the last several decades is the result of parasitic LOW WAGE CONSERVATIVES who want to bring back slavery. But this time they don't want the expense of giving their slaves health care.

Yeah - that's it; It isn't enough that some people are forced to have 2 ou 3 such small half-jobs that nobody wants to do, you've got to schit on them on a seemingly un-provoqued war on poverty, or for greed's sake.

Me, I'll stay there and watch as your country implodes. Go for broke.

You know what I am sick and tired of? People with an IQ below 75 that watch half an hour of Fox dejections and thinks that makes him/her able to come in and sustain an intellectual discussion.

Or all of these brainless cheerleaders who decided to put aside all personal ideals and values to totally espouse a party line, and from that point on all of that said party says or do becomes, de facto and de jure, their exact thought. The last thing this world needs is one more sheepish idiot.

all the more reason to make sure you don't try to raise a family when you haven't shored up your finances

They simply don't want to pay anyone anything. Then they wonder why the nation is declining. But as long as they get theirs that's all that matters. Cheap-labor conservatives are like a plague of locusts stripping everything of value from the land.

if a 16 y.o. can do your job... why do you think doing it at 35 entitles you to more. The big mac is the same no matter the age of the person preparing it.

I quit making min wage when I got a job a 16 yo couldn't do.

it's not the bosses fault you chose to try and raise a family on the salary of a 16 y.o.

You just said it with your own two lips that a society needs people of all education (which equals income earning potential of less dollars or more dollars depending on your level) but then in the same sentence you state that everyone deserves a living wage.

So what's up? If you want a living wage then act like a responsible member of a society. Don't be knocking up the wimmins and on the other hand, don't be a fool and fall for some players game and give it up.

If you want to make a decent wage, a living wage, then be an adult and act like one. If you want to flip burgers or toss burger bags out a drive through window, then drop out of school, get pregnant or get some girl pregnant, hang out on the corner with your pants down around your knees and be an irresponsible member of society.

Simple. Or you can move to France or one of many societies that take care of the 'bots.
