http://money.msn.com/top-stocks/post--russias-gamble-against-us-chickens-backfires This article tells us that Russian consumers suffer higher prices for chicken meat while American chicken producers do not. I am sure Russians want to have Crimea back and their support of Putin remains unabated. Russian farmers will fill the gap quickly.
We can see in Russia at this point a lot of firms exporting meat, vegetables and fruits from China, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Turkey and other countries that did not make stupid penalties.
I hope this'll be when the "sanctions are effective" fiction jumps the shark. Polls indicate that Russians are proud of these sanctions, it's easy to bully a small country with them but Russia is too large and connected for it to work.
Seems strange to me that Russia would ever have wanted to import what could so easily be produced domestically.
Since they didn't before, what makes you think they will now? If they were capable of competing, they already would be.
Russia is a large country so it's taking a while for China, Brazil, Argentina, etc., to fill up all the orders from Russia, but China said it will be able to supply Russia with fruits and vegetables by December. Once those nations are able and ready to fill the orders from Russia, it will be a permanent loss for the E.U. and its freaking them out. It seems Germany is getting fed up with the U.S. and the Atlantic Treaty. Here's a German satire called 'Fake News' which ridicules the U.S.:
The Germans want their gold. The US is withholding it, and so far Germany is remaining, officially speaking, quite subservient to the US..
They joined the World Trade Organization so didn't have time to develop their agriculture and industries to compete with the products coming in from the E.U. They see the sanctions now as an opportunity and excuse to do so. One of the first things they did was go to Argentina and buy their cattle which were bred to withstand the cold.
American chicken meat is poor quality, but it is dirt cheap. Now local farmers will fill the gap. This is called sanctions, but it is also "protectionism" for local producers.
I could have told Washington ten years ago that you don't tell a nation that had always been an empire what to do, because in the minds of the Russian people they will always be an empire. It would be like China telling Britain what they should or should not be doing and trying to manipulate the British people into electing someone who would be in China's favor. Every insult Washington gave Vladimir Putin, only added to his support, and united the Russian people even more so.
