Just an Idea I wanted to voice, Do people commit the sin of abortion because our adoption system is so broken? 153 million orphans worldwide with 397,122 orphans in the U.S http://www.ccainstitute.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=25&Itemid=43
There are times when an Abortion is Morally Justified. Incest. Rape. Unviable Fetus. Health of the Woman. Terminal Birth Defects. Genetic Abnormalities. Etc. AboveAlpha
-Half of pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion -Twenty-one percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion - In 2011, 1.06 million abortions were performed, down 13% from 1.21 million in 2008. From 1973 through 2011, nearly 53 million legal abortions occurred -Each year, 1.7% of women aged 15–44 have an abortion [2]. Half have had at least one previous abortion -At least half of American women will experience an unintended pregnancy by age 45, and at 2008 abortion rates, one in 10 women will have an abortion by age 20, one in four by age 30 and three in 10 by age 45 53 million abortions from '73-'11 are these all incest, rape, health reasons? abortion is too prevalent true there are cases for it but not on this scale
The Guttmacher Institute is a notoriously PRO-LIFE Org. that has been caught upon multiple occasions of falsiflying data. All a member here has to do is Google....Guttmacher Institute Pro-Life False Data....and a plethora of websites detailing the Guttmacher Institute's false claims shows up. AboveAlpha
oh really? thanks I should choose my sources better. how about i get new statistics in 2010 765,651 were reported for 2010 last updated year i could find sorry of these 753,065 (98.4%) were reported from 41 areas that had reported from 2001 to 2010 the abortion rate was 14.6 for 1,000 live births and the ratio 228 for every 1,000 live births (so the stats were wrong) the rate was down 3% from 2009 and was its lowest since 2001 although the ratio was stable through the reporting period. most women who had an abortion were in there early 20s the 20-24 age group was responsible for 32.9% of abortions. this is apposed to a 4.62 infant mortality rate per 1000 live births so more abortion more than tripled the infant death rate if you can find statistics to account for rape incest leading to almost 10 per 1000 live births then you can satisfy me and shut me up but my point still stands is the high rate of abortion due to a lack of a sound adoption system?
Well, first abortion isn't a "sin", please keep religion in the religion forum. Many women reject adopting out because they do not want to go through 9 months of expense and pain, or go through a process that leaves their body permanently damaged. The adoption system isn't broken but it hardly guarantees a kid a loving caring hone.
year my bad sorry i'm an atheist but i figured i could get people to reply by invoking christianity, most of the comments i have seen in my limited time on this forum have been from conservative Christians. and the system is broken In 2012, 23,396 youth aged out of the U.S. foster care system without the emotional and financial support necessary to succeed. Nearly 40% had been homeless or couch surfed, nearly 60% of young men had been convicted of a crime, and only 48% were employed. 75% of women and 33% of men receive government benefits to meet basic needs. 50% of all youth who aged out were involved in substance use and 17% of the females were pregnant. not to mention the state department has it on record that 7,000 kids were adopted from overseas despite a booming increase in our own kids in foster care http://www.acf.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/cb/afcarsreport20.pdf
OK. And this post of yours is a great example of why adoption isn't always the best course of action....from the child's point of view...
I feel like I have gotten off topic I was originally looking for ways we may improve the adoption system to counter balance the rate of abortion which is I believe 14.6 for every 1,000 live births not to mention the 28.4 teen pregnancies per every 1,000 live births CDC and killing untapped potential is never a good idea
Why would making adoption easier or better reduce abortions...? Some women just don't want to adopt out a kid, they don't want to go through 9 months of pregnancy with the accompanying damage to their body and financial loss....
that's a strange way of looking at women who have abortions, It's difficult to argue why people have abortions i could give an anecdote but you could too and then we would need to generalize which is never a good idea especially without prevalent datasets so the best i can say is if women feel their children couyld have a better life in the foster care system the rate could decrease with the ultimate goal being as low as humanly possible without infringing on human rights
No, I ignore personal anecdotes, they mean nothing. Yes, if SOME women think adoption is best that's fine but it certainly wouldn't be the deciding factor for all women because they STILL have all those other considerations. IOW, making adoption a more positive experience is fine and good but don't expect every woman with an unwanted pregnancy to hop on board...
While making the adoption system better is a noble ideology it really will have little to no effect on abortion rates, the only proven way to, at least, reduce abortion rates is to have comprehensive mandatory sex education and free at source contraception and I don't just mean condoms. Though the contraception issue would be off topic here.
