They need to catch the environmental terrorists that did this.

It appears this thread was created for the title alone and not for discussion by Liberals. Just like the news story was focused on by Liberals at PBS. Propaganda for idiots.

    1. 40,000 gallons is not a "massive oil spill".
    2. The damage is not "irreversible".
    3. More oil spills out of Obama's buddy Buffet's train cars than pipelines.
    4. I like how PBS ignores all the oil spilled out of train cars and blasts this story out... what a joke of a news organization. It's propaganda for "Willing Idiots" to repeat.

40,000 gallons is just over the capacity of 1 standard tank car.

Guess how many of those things I see going by every day....hundreds and hundreds...right along the Mississippi River. So there are millions of gallons of oil traveling at 50 mph just feet away from the largest river in America every second of every day....but you have a problem with oil flowing in a pipe?

Apparently, it's only republicans who own oil companies that move their oil by pipeline. Dems apparently use trains, hence the liberal faux rage over the pipeline spill.

Obama has nothing to do with new oil sources in the US.. Exploration and drilling were and are driven by the high price per barrel. You accusation is really silly.

They still haven't cleaned up the last oil spill on the Yellowstone river from three years ago.. As the river rises and falls it deposits oil in the grasses on the streams and tributaries. Its quite different than an ocean spill.

Didn't read thread. That pipeline was built over 50 years ago, so apples and oranges compared to modern technology, 0 comparison possible, pure fear-mongering. You probably meant to include the fact in the OP that the pipeline was that old, right? Was just an omission that you didn't, right? You wouldn't leave out such necessary context for some reason, would you?

I don't recall Obama taking credit, but whatever floats your boat.

    Massive oil spills???

obviously what we need is a huge pipeline cutting through our most productive agricultural region, threatening the water table with a spill some day that we'd have to pay to clean up.....

to produce a few temporary jobs and make some Canadians rich.

The get paid very nice lease payments for the land just as when an oil company drills on it. It is NOT stolen so can we dispense with the fallacious arguments?

    And

" the pipeline has had a history of trouble, including weak welds made in the 1950s."

The technology and construction techniques we have now make the 50's look like prehistoric man.

Lots of pipelines are 50 years old.. perhaps they should be maintained properly.

Then why are individuals being forced to accept it? Just because you might think they are getting fair pay does not make mean the owners do. My land is priceless to me. Nobody not you, my neighbors, or my govt., should have a right to force me to accept a price I do not feel is enough.
I like cheap gas it is nice to fill up with a $20. Not nice enough I would tread on the rights of other individuals for my own benefit.

If the water is contaminated, what good are the land and the lease payments?

They will normally carry between 8-11,000 gallons of oil based on the weight per gallon, the specific gravity, so about 4 of them.

I don't think the age was necessarily the qualification it is the welds in this one made back in the 50's. And they are assets that cost lots of money, I have a soon to be son-in-law who is an engineer on pipe-lines whose job is to maintain them, what is the basis of your claim that is not done properly?

Sorry thought you were addressing tanker TRUCKS.

    - - - Updated - - -

The issue I responded to was the alleged stealing of the land from the owners.

The typical debate today is between pipeline and railcar.

Trucking is for short distance. like from the well to the railyard
