    http://www.aleteia.org/en/health/ar...-if-we-all-pretend-hes-jill-5806236423421952?

HYPERLINK brings you to the entire, though-provoking article

note: I placed this into this subsection as this subsection deals with alternative sexual lifestyles

    snip

Fixed false beliefs are identified in the mental health field as manifestations of a serious thinking disorder, specifically a delusion.

IMO, the author is spot on. Thinking that you are the opposite sex is being delusional. Society will be better off once we agree on that. Then, the root issue can be addressed and treated.

I hope the good work being done to shine light upon the false claims being put forth by the radical left will allow us to focus on a cure. With an attempted suicide rate of 41% among those delusional folks, we are losing precious time doing absurd things like lopping off the penis and letting boys shower with girls

You think all your articles are thought-provoking, why don't you let others be the judge of that :p
Well it is called the gay and lesbian rights section, not the alternative sexual lifestyles section, which means it is different in this case from transgender issues.... not that I really care if it's posted here, but just wanted to be clear.

I think most actually agree with the article, at least most of it. Our mental health standards promote treatment for adults and children with gender identity disorder that focuses first on trying to help them be happy with their biological gender. More extreme forms of treatment like reassignment surgery should be a very last resort for only the most extreme cases.... if that's the only shot we have in helping Jack be happier, then so be it, but this certainly isn't the end-goal of anybody with gender identity disorder. I hope that the parents in question in the article were acting on the advice of psychiatrists and not forgoing any treatment efforts.

As for it being considered a delusion, I think the author misunderstands the meaning of the word. If these people were truly delusional, there would be no need for reassignment surgery. On the contrary, they recognize their biological sex. The issue is they don't believe it matches their mental attributes, which is much harder to prove or disprove. There are known differences in the male and female brains and psychology, so it stands to reason that these differences could exist in people with the identity disorder. I have not done much study on the topic, but the limited exposure I have had on the topic in my psychology classes suggests this is often the case.

Anyway, point being I would agree that we should be focusing on whatever methods are most likely to help the individual cope, which certainly doesn't mean a focus on reassignment surgery. The answer won't be the same for everyone, the fact that one treatment worked for one person won't mean it works for everyone else.

I suspect the response rates would be similar, just with less eye-rolling :p

As long as procreation is still happening by some means, 'gender' is irrelevant to anything. Everyone should be free to live and express themselves as they please.... The future will NEVER belong to those who insist on a strict homophobic, sexist cultural & legal adherence to certain "rules" on how one should look and act, and I laugh at those who are so discombobulated by the changes.

I'm not denying his right to dress like a woman.... But when he INSISTS I refer to him as a girl, and let him use female facilities, or when he's in school, he's allowed into the girl's locker room and if my daughter is upset, she is punished for being trannyophobic, or whatever ridiculous term you want to label her like she's the one with something wrong, I draw the line.

I would be concerned and highly doubt any work where somebody says transgenderism is delusional. It is disphoria.

Perhaps you should talk with your daughter about civil rights.. When my girl was about 15 she saw two gays smooching at the fountain at the C of C and she freaked out... and I got it.. However, while it may be shocking, it not the end of the world.

Gad, that was 30 years ago.

Of course trans people shouldn't use the facilities ascribed to their desired sex, but it isn't right to mix them with their sex either for the same reasons. Don't you think?

The topic is "Will Jack be happier if we pretend he's Jill?"

Well, I imagine that pretending that someone is someone they aren't is going to be detrimental to their psychiatric health, which is exactly why trans rights are important. Pretending that trans people are just deluded is denying them their identities and is harmful.

Oh, you thought I was going somewhere else with that.

    >>>MOD EDIT Off Topic Removed<<<

I'm just incredibly frustrated with how people never question any of the paradigms of their thoughts. They defend certain things as sacred and unassailable without ever asking why these things are sacred and unassailable. They cry that everyone needs to be cis and straight without ever questioning why. ******ned sheep.

did you know that at one time, "modern scientists" also put leeches on people to treat them.

I would not put much stock in "modern psychologists" who presently say that being a male does not mean that you are a male. But, since they fall into the side of your agenda you would agree with them and since they fall onto the side of nonsense, I disagree with them.

I'd always take somebody's opinion if they approach it from a non biased stand point that seeks answers over somebody that just automatically condemns something because they find it strange.

    You are the latter.

you are not unbiased either... you have a vested interest in hearing something that supports the alternative agenda.

how many times have you ever heard of a black man denouncing the "black men are well hung" myth? My guess is never.... because they have a vested interest in propagating that narrative

The author infuses their own bias into the item, where as the reality is that more and more scientists and medical personal are beginning to see that homosexuality is a born trait that is part of their physical being due to the way their brain developed during pregnancy and is not subject to change .. it can be suppressed though the use of drugs and hormone injections, but it can NEVER be changed, but for those who oppose homosexuals they would rather suppress them instead of understanding and accepting equally, that is based upon their own irrational fears rather than sound medical facts.

And those "scientists" have their faith much like Christians have ours. Study after study has not been able to prove the theory of "born homosexual"

When identical twins are not ALWAYS either homosexual or heterosexual it sure shoots the theory full of holes.

But, I'd rather address the true fallacy which you attempt within your reply. From what I see, people are not opposed to those living the homosexual lifestyle. It's nothing more than a sexual choice and should not be treated as if it's a sex/race/species. Go forth and have your gay sex if it's what you want. Nobody is stopping you. But, do not get the govt involved demanding punishment for people and businesses who do not share your faith.

I legitamately know a set of twins. One is a preacher, the other is a gay liberal.

My serious question is... when we were in 7th grade and I beat them both up in a fight at the same time in the bandroom....had that happened today, why would beating up the gay liberal a "hate crime" and bullying, but beating up his future pastor brother is just a regular battery

I disagree with the concept of "hate crime"

Why is it more heinous for a heterosexual to be beaten by a homosexual than 2 heterosexuals beating each other?

If you think sentences for battery are insufficient, then change the sentences for all

No they base it on the research done, and study after study does give very good evidence to homosexuality being a born trait.

They don't have to be, the hormonal changes can be specific to each of the twins . .you seem to forget that these hormones are produced by the foetus itself, so while the female may be producing the correct level of hormones the fetus may not be.

The true fallacy is produced by those who wilfully ignore what science is telling us, and I take from your comment that you do not agree with equality for all.

Assault is assault regardless of who it is against, the question would be why you beat them up. If you beat the gay liberal up because he was a gay liberal then yes it would be a hate crime, same goes for the brother if you beat him up for being a pastor.

I agree.... why is key.... just because the one is gay, does not mean I beat him up for it. Too often, if you assault someone who happens to be gay..... it's sold to the public as "guy beats up gay man" and immediately, people are screaming it's a hate-crime. Meanwhile, if I beat up his twin/straight brother.... its not the same click bait attraction.

Both were just entitled jerks who made a habit of cawk blawking me with girls I liked. I handled it all way wrong I now realize.... but in today's landscape and schools, I would have been suspended for beating up the straight twin, and arrested for beating up the gay one when the truth was, I beat them both up for the same reason.... being annoying

my point exactly. Hate crimes are just one more proof that all minorities aren't really in it for EQUALITY... they are in it for revenge. They want EXTRA protections under the law and they'll be damned by waiting for facts and evidence to come out before they convict you publicly on a hate-crime.

    Look at Zimmerman
Look at that guy who filmed his gay roommates sex leading to his suicide.

I'm not saying they aren't guilty of whatever crime they committed.... but tagging on the "hate" label is just political posturing at the expense of someone people are afraid to defend.

I don't want to defend the guy who recorded his roommate. That's a crime whether it's a gay guy, or a straight guy, or a girl..... gender, sexuality, race, doesn't change that.

The distinction would be up to the evidence available, if the evidence points to it being nothing more than you considering them "jerks" the charge would be the same for both, but .. if the evidence points to it being based on either the sexuality or religious aspirations of either of them then it would be a hate crime. What others think of the matter is irrelevant and immaterial as far as the law is concerned.
