By Robert W. Merry December 10, 2013 "You may fool all the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you cant fool all of the people all of the time." This sprightly aphorism distills to its essence Lincolns belief that the collective judgment of the electorate is essentially soundperhaps not in every instance or in whole, but over time it is sufficiently sound to protect the foundations of the nation. Democracy works because it is in the hands of the people. Less well known is the statement uttered by Lincoln to introduce his famous dictum: "If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem." Put the two together, as Lincoln did, and you get a sense not only of the futility of trying to fool the American people but also the danger posed to any politician who tries it. Which brings us to Barack Obama. His presidency is in freefall, and there is strong evidence that the freefall is related to the ever-dangerous issue of trust. (Excerpt) Read more: http://nationalinterest.org/commentary/does-america-trust-barack-obama-9529 Although written nearly a year and a half ago, the editorial penned by Robert Merry seems to hold true and is emphasized today more so today as evidence continues to mount up. Presidents dont get to make excuses based on what they inherit in taking office, nor do they get to trim on defining their success in relation to the performance of their predecessors. Something that Obama has used from the time of his inauguration January 2009. His policies have made no sense, and theres little in the country to show for it, other than high unemployment, racial unrest and a long term unstable economy.
First off trust in government is at 24%. You can compare public trust through out the years below. http://www.people-press.org/2014/11/13/public-trust-in-government/ According to a recent poll 42% of Americans trust President Obama: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/mar/4/voters-trust-republicans-congress-more-obama-poll/
We are not discussing Democrats, Republicans, or Congress. We are strictly discussing trust in Obama. Your deflection and obfuscation of the subject duly noted. You obviously did not read the complete Op-Ed. Obama's actions in the Middle East, and overall foreign policy mistakes have reduced Obama's trustworthiness considerably since December 2013.
I trust Obama to lie constantly and work 24/7, around the clock against the best interest of Americans.
Sadly if Diogenes were to take his lamp into the halls of the various establishments of our government today he would find that the only honest people are insane. How many here believe that the term honest politician is an oxymoron?
Ah, but trust in any one president also equate trust in government and Obama's trust factor among the people nationwide seems to be appropriate. But if you do not think that is relevant that is perfectly okay.
The question you should be asking, regardless of the political colour of the incumbent, is 'does the world trust America...?'
Name me any President who didn't lie through his teeth against the best interests of America. Remember who said, "read my lips, no new taxes", then tell us what happened next.
The follow up question is do you trust Hillary more than Obama, as much as Obama or less than Obama? I trust her less.
I hold that America, and therefore, the World, has been subject to an agenda that began with the killing of JFK. Since then, it hasn't mattered who holds the office of POTUS, or which party claims him. The same agenda is served. No-one rises to candidacy unless he is a club member already. Look at the coming election. No candidate can possibly remain viable unless he starts with over $1B in the war chest. Who but the darling child of the well monied can even attain the starting line?
Not any longer. You can see it in our strained relation with our allies and the aggressive motions of our enemies.
I agree. However, some are trusted more than others. I'd trust a can of tuna to perform better in the White House than Obama. I'd trust that same can of tuna to act more favorably for America's best interests than Obama has done. A failed experiment this joker is.
In my corner of the world things have been inchingly getting better since Obama took over from the bumbling moron that preceded him. That any progress has been made at all, considering where he had to start from and the Republican obstruction says much about how effective Obama really is. I'm guessing the emotional pain that comes from reality slapping ideology around blinds Republican sheep and binds them to the unreal world of their programming.
a billion $ is NOTHING in a presidential race, altho they lie to us about it. It costs 10 billion or more to be truly viable.
How many Right Wing Republican Conservatives can you name that have claimed their computers have crashed or purposefully destroyed their private servers to keep investigations from accessing information that might prove their corruption and criminality?
Then you must being living under a rock and your world consists of a steady diet of strictly lies, Progressive tripe and disinformation.
If we will look at the fake stats provided by Obama's administration we will see that he will most popular president ever, but in fact... I don't think that after all his deeds somebody trust him.
We know that you don't trust the truth, you'd rather swallow hook, line and sinker the many lies of Obama and his administration.
Bush White House e-mail controversy – During the Lawyergate investigation it was discovered that the Bush administration used Republican National Committee (RNC) web servers for millions of emails which were then destroyed, lost or deleted in possible violation of the Presidential Records Act and the Hatch Act. George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Andrew Card, Sara Taylor and Scott Jennings all used RNC webservers for the majority of their emails. Of 88 officials investigated, 51 showed no emails at all.[85] As many as 5 million e-mails requested by Congressional investigators were therefore unavailable, lost, or deleted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_scandals_in_the_United_States - - - Updated - - - If you think the RW propaganda you barf up here is "truth" you're the one whose swallowed the hook.
