http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/local/2015/05/26/s-iredell-high-school-evacuated/27955409/ It's ironic. Americans like to rally around the flag about how they will not let terrorists win and threaten their freedoms. Isn't this (*)(*)(*)(*)... Like exactly what the terrorists wanted? Put our country into a constant state of fear and essentially persecute our own citizens over stupid (*)(*)(*)(*) like this?
If someone can cite a single solitary instance in which a an explosive device rang before exploding I'll agree with you. Sadly our fear of bombs has been shaped by road runner, bugs bunny and action movies.
Agree with me about what? Are you suggesting that they wouldn't have been charged before 9/11, or that yelling "Fire" in a crowded building won't get you arrested?
It was a bad idea to begin with, should they actually be charged? No. But still, stupid idea was a stupid idea.
Yeah that they charged them also with obstruction of justice means they know that felony charge is going nowhere fast.
It was a harmless prank and nothing else. An alarm clock in a locker won't sound like a fire bell, a terrorist bomb, or anything else other than an alarm clock in a locker.
I happy that I graduated before 9/11. otherwise I'd be in jail. I remember when people used to laugh in America. Nothing is funny anymore. Everything seems either threatening or offensive one way or another. All those fingers on all those triggers...
Charged? Are you kidding. Maybe sent to detention but there would be zero police involvement. I think the prank was good as pranks go. Intended to be a head scratching nuance for admin. Perfect. Cheers Labour
I missed the senior prank day at my school. I forgot what they did. I think it involved balloons and shaving cream or some such girly-ness if I recall correctly. I had all A's so I did not have to take any exams and didn't need the reading days. I wanted to take a few exams but was told I couldn't. "You, sir, are done. Don't come back until graduation practice."
That a ringing alarm bell is a bomb. . . They weren't trying to fake a bomb in a locker. Sadly we have DA's and judges who are either clueless or don't care and like to make names for themselves whom put these boys at risk for being charged with a felony even though what they did lacks motive.
Good prank. The public educators in this nation have become P.C. morons.... the product they produce is horrible.
It used to be that small towns and country/rural settings were thought of as rigid places where morals and law was strictly adhered too, zero tolerance, and transgressors were pilloried. A hundred movies on the meme; mostly related to stodgy chaperons at proms, small town deputy sheriffs with no sense of humor, hang 'em high judges that strictly treat juvenile pranksters etc. No more, it's the progressive cities and suburbs that are the inhuman machines that demand conformity, zealously enforce zero tolerance regulations and enthusiastically intrude on individual freedom. I moved myself and family away from that, it's made all the difference. Cheers Labour
Right, and a hilarious scene as principles and admin types suffered the laughter as a few hours of their day were spent chasing ringing lockers. Great! Someone is living and enjoying life, good for them. Cheers Labour
I can't stand this kind of stories. American judicial just ruins lives of Americans. I remember kids setting off stink bombs and smoke bombs in my high school. If they were caught, I think they got a detention or something. This is seriously (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up. Do they really want to ruin these girls' lives over a stupid alarm clock?
You're 100% correct. Two girls who pulled a prank. Teens testing limits and teasing adults, a teaching moment for sure. Learn the cost of some silly behaviors in a flexible "non adult" environment. Charging the kids with felonies for this misses the concept of juvenile or adolescence. Adult consequences should not even of been on the list of options. Not for the teens anyway. I do think, now, that the adults involved need some adult consequences. Child abuse anyone? Cheers Labour
That might be true, but I'm unclear where they tried to suggest there was any "danger" (false or otherwise) by putting an alarm clock in a locker. I'm guessing use of an alarm clock with a bomb went out of style in the original Batman TV series. Why it was suggested this could be remotely related to a bomb, I don't know.
I don't know, and I don't really care. My point is that such a prank would likely have led to charges even before 9/11. Schools have been on high alert since at least the mid-nineties.
If someone phoned in a bomb threat, or a fire threat, or made a digital alarm sound like a fire alarm, then I agree. I don't see how anyone linked this prank with a life threatening or dangerous situation, unless they were stuck in a 1920's quarry mining lifestyle. I mean, it's quite comical - did someone hear the ticking and assume "BOMB!"... or hear the alarm go off and think the same thing?? I hope kids don't have digital watches these days then... every hour the beeps will be sending academic staff under their tables.
Such nonsense has been occurring long before september eleventh ever took place. Incidents deemed as disrupting the education environment are considered real crimes. Mouthing off to a teacher is a crime because it is a disruption. If you do not believe it, look up the school to prison pipeline.
Yes, I'm sure most bombs are going to have alarms that alert people of it's presence, right? If they actually file charges against these girls, it will be a pretty (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) move.
Like I said, schools have been on high alert since the mid-nineties, and administrators are not concerned about your mockeries of the situation, because when push comes to show, if it were a bomb, as old-fashioned at it may be, you'd all be encouraging people to sue the district for negligence.
