    Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) paid a man $3.5 million to stay quiet about a sexual relationship from when Hastert was a high school teacher, according to multiple reports on Friday.

    And this man fought tooth and nail against equal protection for gays during his career. This country is full of corruption and hypocrisy, pedophiles and predators. Nothing can exonerate him from that horrible crime of child sexual abuse. But it occurred so long ago...Can he be brought to justice for it?

    this type of conduct and coverup is nothing to for Republicans - nor is the silence on the part of that party's many members on this forum

    Nothing new to see here. It's all part of the Republican family value platform where homophobia rules, while using it to cover up their own sexual orientation.

    It appears that Hastert is, in my fine estimation, a bit of a scumbag.

    However, I don't think that what he did is indicative of the Republican Party, nor do I think that his actions with what appears to be an underage child are an accurate comparison to gay and lesbian treatment under the law.

    Another politician caught doing something wrong. Color me not surprised.bat least he'll face some sort of justice, even if it is a bit late.

    The person Studds was involved with was 17 so of legal age.....so no crime was committed. You know there was a Republican involved in that scandal too.

    western churches and politics are not the only institutions full of predators preying on children. music and sports also has issue in this regard. the west has real problems dealing with this taboo subject and has become rampant as a result.

    Persons in authority can (and should) be charged for entering into sexual relationships with children. A 17 year old is a child. You do know that teachers have gone to prison for having sex with 17 year old students, I assume?

    Yeah because politicians are hardly ever involved in sex scandals. LOL!

    Bill Clinton lied about getting a BJ.....does this mean the lefties won't vote for Hillary? Of course not. Stop with hypocrisy already. Sex scandals and all kinds of immoral activity goes on with dems and Republicans. Nothing to see here.

    Not 30 years ago. If as is believed the student was of age it appears there was no crime and any statute of limitations has run out. I haven't seem a link giving his exact age, for all we know he could have been 18. Does it make it right, probably not we just don't know.

    The question is why hasn't the person who was blackmailing him been indicted.

    So Democrats are not Christian, do not support the family, have no morals or principles or values?

    Seems to me Obama is always speaking about what we are supposed to value and our principles especially when it comes to taking money from someone to give to someone else.

    How about the current front runner for the Democrat nominee for President and her husband and keeping the closet all his sex scandals?

    Bill and Hillary paid $900,000 to compensate one of his victims, does it have to hit a million or more to become an issue or something?

    Didn't read, don't believe, until sourced to something other than Huffington Post. Politifact found only 15% of Huffpuff stories are completely true. That's lousy. Who would waste their time and mental real estate paying any attention to anything in Huffington Post? Source it to something else, and no, not going to waste my time googling up a source that should have been used instead of HuffPuff to start with.

    Well, probably not. There is a statute of limitations, and that happened at least 30 years ago. He probably was anti-gay because he knew gay men like himself were predatory.....

    It really all depends on where you are. In Texas seventeen is the legal age of consent. But in all honesty you don't pay a man millions of dollars to keep quiet about consensual sex.

    If the age of consent has been reached it is not a crime. That is basic. Sorry you don't understand that.
