Terrorists with Islamic State aren’t letting ordinary life pass them by – the group is holding a contest with prizes amid celebrations for the holy month of Ramadan. The game? Memorizing the Koran. The prize? Human sex slaves.

These "new" radical Muslims have more sense than the former ones.

They are not waiting for 70 virgins in paradise anymore... they are becoming more Americanized... they want fun now...

These contests I believe are held elsewhere in the Arab world as well. What surprises me is that unlike Christianity where there is freedom of thought and will, the prize in the Muslim world is given simply for rote memory.

    Pure indoctrination. :oldman:

Um, you're memorizing a whole book. That feat rightfully deserves a prize.

You'd think Obama, being black, would want to fight slavery more than anyone.

    But he just doesn't care.

Why? Obama is NOT the prodigy of slaves. There is NO slaves in his ancestry.

    Obama's Kenyan ancestors sold slaves

Who knows how credible this sourse is. But I find it intresting.

The following piece from About.com appears to have been picked up and used without attribution by FreeRepublic.com and iReport. Here is the About.com piece asserting that Obama is descended from slave traders on his father’s side:

Obama’s African Forebears Were Slave Traders

In the 18th century, Muslim slavers moved into the interior of Kenya for the purpose of exploiting blood rivalries between local tribes. Muslims encouraged warring tribes, Obama Jr’s Luo ancestors included, to capture “prisoners of war” and sell them into slavery.

Kenya tribe leaders, also exported slaves and ivory that had been exchanged by Africans from the interior for salt, cloth, beads, and metal goods. The slaves were then marched to the coast and shipped to Muslim Zanzibar (an island South of Kenya), to be traded again.

African slaves and ivory became hugely profitable and Zanzibar Muslims grew rich on the trade. Slave trading continued despite the public outrage in Europe demanding an end to all slave trade.

The British, eventually brought their forceful anti-slavery message directly to the Muslim Sultan.

After years of pressure, the Sultan finally relented and agreed to ban slavery in 1847. It was not until 1876, 11 years after the American Civil War had ended, that the sale of slaves was finally prohibited in Zanzibar.

    Guess Who Bought These Slaves?

Obama’s American Forebears Were Slave Owners

Many people know that Democratic presidential candidate Obama Jr’s father was from Kenya and his mother from Kansas. But, (quoting a Mar.2, 2007 report in the Baltimore Sun), “an intriguing sliver of his [Obama Jr.] family history has received almost no attention until now: It appears that forebears of his white mother owned slaves, according to genealogical research and census records.

” . . . The records could add a new dimension to questions by some who have asked whether Obama – who was raised in East Asia and Hawaii and educated at Columbia and Harvard – is attuned to the struggles of American blacks descended from West African slaves.”

As Obama says: his Grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama is Arab. Obama’s maternal Grandmother, Akuma, was kiddnapped, raped and enslaved by Oyango until she finally escaped, like many girls he had before. So his own Grandmother in Africa was a slave to his Arabic Muslim Grandfather. This is according to Sarah Obama, Barack’s step-Grandmother and mentioned in Barack’s OWN Memoir.

So Both his African-Arabic Muslim Grandfather and his white Grandparents owned slaves.

Wonder which ones were treated better?

Sunday school contests with prizes for memorizing Bible verses used to be very common. Freedom of Christian thought is a modern twist. The really big difference is that outside of the Bible belt few Americans really believe all those Bible stories about talking animals etc.

Hardly, they are the very flower of faithful arab muslims, who are adhering to their religion properly. Never question the committment of the followers of the death cult islam like the OP, who are merely displaying their embracing of the core tenets and practices of the doctrine.

I have to admit that there are some days when I'd like to win a few sex slaves, as long as they are slim, attractive, lively conversationalists, not democratic voters, nor arab muslims. They'd come in quite handy as I'm a busy, fast-moving guy.

You make a good point about the sex slaves. In Christian territory that particular perk is confined to members of the clergy. This could be why church attendance is way down.

Some people have photographic memories, like my daughter for instance. When she was young, she could memorize everything, and didn't understand any of it...and that's the point. What good is something if you can't comprehend it...except for the training it's giving you for a higher learning later on.

But from what I gather, the memorizing of the Quran is an end in itself. There are no further analysis, or theological and philosophical concepts than what is written.

Memorization is one of the methods religions use to brainwash people. Its like in the catholic church, repeat after me, sit, kneel, stand, sit, repeat after me, sit, kneel, stand, tell me what you did wrong last week, sit, kneel, I forgive you, repeat after me. You may go but make sure you come back next week.
Its sad watching the weak fall for that crap.

I think your discussion is getting confused between Islam and "ISILam".

All across the world, Islam has pointed out over and over again that ISIL is just plain wrong.

Beyond that, I'm not so sure it makes much sense to strive to understand the religion of ISIL. After all, almost nobody believes "ISILam", we aren't going to convert them, we aren't going to accept them (since they are all terrorists), etc.

It's up to us to be smart about this.
