Haha. Fear is what makes you run. Logic makes you shoot.

I said nothing about being fair or nice. I'm presenting a counter argument. Sorry you don't like it. Nothing nice about argumentation.:wink:

since 9/11 over 190,000 people have been murdered in the US, in which only 37 have been linked to Islamic extremism.

but everyone else are not even supposed to raise their brows at the notion that this proposed banned on all Muslims from the US is anything other than a prejudice against Muslims?

So what did the logical do before they had a gun?
Do you think people reserve judgement until they know another personally?

at least we can find common ground in agreeing that the OP is wrong to suggest that the support for banning Muslims from the US is not being driven by prejudice.....

    How idealistic.
I asked if you believe people reserve judgement until they knew someone. Yes or no.

I'm toying with you, Amy. My answer was sarcastic, but also blunt. I don't 'believe' what goes on in the minds of others is any of my business.

I reserve judgement. Many people I know do. Some don't. That's what I know. I won't pretend to 'believe' something about people in general. I've never met them. You see, I like to reserve judgement on people until I know them. How's that answer?

May I ask where you're going with this? Are you getting all Socrates on me?

Keeping everyone out for awhile would be fine with me. I'm just saying your examples can be applied to many groups.

Why are you concerned with American politics?

I find it interesting and a little bizarre. Why are you concerned with an Australian who's concerned about American politics?

I don't. I think about riding my Harley, drinking strong IPA, flirting with the women at work, and talking to friends, including those here. Oh...and my ####### job and paying bills, too. But not Baptists. They never do cross my mind, by god.

I once had a bumper sticker that read - "I'd rather push my Moto Guzzi than ride your Harley".

Haha. Moto Guzzis are great bikes.

My bumper sticker said, "Good thing you have a Moto Guzzi. Pushing my Harley would kill you." Lol.

I don't care about your domestic affairs. Just
wondering why you care about ours. I think you're sad and pathetic. I think the global obsession with America ought to embarrass you.

This is true. Some groups have beliefs that are antiethical to my beliefs, and for those people, I am willing to keep them from entering the country. One of those groups is muslims who, in the words of Bill Maher I believe, said that "Islam is the motherlode of bad ideas".

Sorry, but I don't believe that I want to live next to somebody who believes that men are superior to women, or that people who choose to not be muslims should be put to death. That's just me, but it is how I feel. Perhaps you feel differently.

    1. Net immigration from Mexico for the last several years has been less than zero (more people have been leaving than coming in) because conservatives drove our economy into the ground in 2008 and it's never fully recovered.

    2. Internal white supremacist terrorist groups are the greatest terrorist threat to America by death toll, not Muslim fundamentalists.

    3. Conservative policies created the immigration crisis and modern Muslim fundamentalist terrorists. Conservatives backed NAFTA, which pushed poor Mexican farmers off their land and into the U.S. Reagan's illegal actions in Latin America and his support of military dictators and death squads there turned those countries into third-world gangster states, which people inevitably fled from. Conservatives also have a rich history of failed interventions in the Middle East, the culmination of which led to the rise of Muslim fundamentalist terrorists. Reagan backed and armed what would become Al-Qaeda as "freedom fighters" against the Russians, and Bush destabilized the whole region through his illegal invasion of Iraq, which led to the Syrian Civil War and then the rise of ISIS. What makes you think that Trump is any different, given his extra-legal fetish for torture and callous murder of civilians, as long as it is part of his quixotic quest to stop Muslims from destroying America?

    4. Given the consistently illegal actions of Reagan, Bush, and other conservatives, shouldn't we label the Republican party as illegal rather than the populations they damaged as part of their extra-legal actions?

    5. Perhaps the reason gun massacre like the one that occurred in San Bernardino happen is because anyone, including radicalized terrorists, can go out and buy military grade weaponry. Incidentally, the only problem with Trump's plan (or, for that matter, any conservative's plan) to overhaul the Muslim immigration process is that he doesn't have one.

    6. Given that all the racial issues raised here are clearly, as proven above, pseudo issues with no real impact on the lives of everyday Americans, one must wonder if those who support Trump and/or are conservatives aren't xenophobic or racist after all because their positions seem to be based not on any rational analysis of risk but rather on an unhealthy obsession with people of a different skin tone.

    7. Trump has no chance of winning over any minority voters except the very select few who are already deluded enough to support the GOP. He'll either win on the angry white vote, or he'll sink.
