    The clock continues to tick:

I realize there are a lot of folks who can accept deniers claims that global warming isn't happening, or that we're getting cooler or any other fabricated nonsense ginned up by the deniers. All of those charts may be beyond the abilities or a lot of people to understand and are easily misled by phony charts. However, staring at the reality of global warming (like dying coral reefs due to rises in ocean temps) is not something that can be denied. And why is the health of coral reefs important? Funny you should ask:

Somehow we have to get the rest of the other half of our voters on board with taking action and not hindering our efforts.

Another 'the world is coming to an end' AGW claim when in fact it was in the path of the sun and wind driven El Nino that warmed the waters.

El Ninos do not happen every year; if they did, we'd be far worse off. I will also note that denies will point everywhere for a "reason" than what is really happening, just as you will blame years of dying coral on an El Nino. Why not just race reality and admit what is proven to be happening?

The sky is warming...the sky is warming!

I think we should make taxing climate change voluntary. I'm sure the warmies would gladly pay even if no one else does......right?

Grizz isn't aware that an El Nino manifests itself for a couple of years and that every media announcement claims any and every weather related event as AGW.

I'm sorry, but the global warming alarmists lost all credibility when they said it was the cause of ISIS. Once they said that then I realized they'll say anything.

I used to buy into it until I started actually reading the science instead of listening to the alarmists outlets. I am also old enough to know that these 'fads' come and go but this one is entrenched in the political sphere for many reasons other than actual science.

I'm 53 and can remember this was a problem when I was in high school. So, 35 years later, it's still a problem, but the coral reefs are still there.

Sounds like another money grab by the science community again.

Kinda like this new Zika virus. It made a few headlines, then wasn't talked about much. THEN, the science community announced it's MUCH worse then they thought. How much worse? Obama wanting to give them $2,000,000,000 worse. I doubt we will be hearing much more about it once they get the money.

The scientific approach to the matter in the replies to the OP says a lot. No further is necessary to show the deniers bankruptcy.

So you're old enough to remember the global cooling hoax and the death of the Amazon rain forest which was going to shut off the world's oxygen supply if we didn't save it?

Oh yea, that was a big one too. And that we were going to run out of oil in 15 years, didn't happen. Going to run out of potable water in 20 years, didn't happen. The world was going to collapse from over population, didn't happen. Etc, etc.

Stayed at a Holiday Inn last night, did you?

I'm just thankful that Combat Wounded Veteran's groups are getting together with conservation groups like MOTE to replant areas
of dying corals rather than sticking their fingers in their ears and chanting, "It ain't happening, It ain't happening ...".

Nice try, Hoosie. Ain't gonna work. And I do believe you're informed enough on the subject to know it, but just in case:

Put another way, an El Nino doesn't "cause" this to happen; it's just been making it worse.

Because it would be an admission that they are ignorant and that climate change isn't a liberal cabal to take their guns and bibles away.

I do believe that there is some linkage between climate change, warming and ISIS. However, there is no scientific consensus that this occurred.

I'm a fisherman. I've fished the banks of the Delaware River in Philly for over 40 years. Weird how high tide is exactly where it was when I was a kid, even though I'm constantly told that "the sea is rising!"!
I've been going to the Jersey shore just as long...absolutely zero change from when I was a kid....with one exception...many more expensive homes closer to the ocean and the bay. That's the main reason the coastal storms cause more $$$$ in damage. But please do keep crying wolf!

I read this was due to SPF, not global warming..... but never let a good agenda be hindered by truth

    http://time.com/4080985/sunscreen-coral-reefs/

as a fair skinned ginger.... I refuse to not wear sunscreen though, while swimming, though.

so please, until you can tell me whether it's my 10 mpg jeep, or my SPF 50 that's killing the reefs.... spare me the "the science is settled" bull crap

Every media comment and paper now includes a nod to AGW. Yet the ocean is heated by the sun, not CO2 back radiation.

Maybe the coral is disappearing because of 35 years of scientists killing it to take back to their labs to research it

    What bullcrap.

Coral deaths are probably related to radiation from leaking fukishima reactor.

Right. They want to use it as an excuse to RAISE TAXES. And this then again begs the question, if this was truly a danger CAN YOU RELY ON THE GOVERNMENT TO ACTUALLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM? Of course, not. Government is always a colossal failure at everything it does. Hell, the government itself, and most of the governments in the world, would have already collapsed themselves if not for running up billion and trillions in debt. They've had to borrow all this prosperity from future generations just to keep up the illusion that they're actually competent and effective. Most people never stop to consider any of this. They just bow down and believe whatever B.S. their political "masters" feed them.

Warming isn't the problem. The increased CO2 reacts with the water forming carbonic acid which interferes with the coral's ability to form. An increase in CO2 would continue to be a problem even if temperatures were falling. The stuff doesn't grow quick so right now it is probably a wash between the CO2 and the benefits achieved by limiting fishing and reducing run off in coastal areas near coral beds. Corals adapt to their local conditions, which are not always the same, but it is a very slooooooooow process.
