I did read that Washington wanted to place Gulen in charge, but that might just be a rumor. What is strange though is that usually when there is a coup, there is a strong man at the fore front, while in this case there wasn't... so maybe they did want to put him in charge.

Gulen is a billionaire and has top notch technical schools throughout Turkey and the Muslim world, and some say he's like a cult leader ... but then again so is Erdogan. Gulen's students are in high position throughout Turkey, so he does wield a lot of power... and this is what Erdogan is fearful of.

One person close to Erdogan told the Russian political scientist Alexander Dugan that Gulen is running an alternate government in Turkey. It might be true, especially if Washington does want to overthrow Erdogan... which I don't doubt.

You know nothing about history of Turkey. Turkic invaders arrived Asia Minor in 11. century and they have about 50.000 to 80.000 (all of them were male fighters) and they made intermarriages with native people of Asia Minor and these intermarriages occured "Turks". Today we have not many common things with Altaic people (Koreans, Japaneses or kyrgyz people) because we share common genetical heritage and culture with "Eastern Romans" - especially the Greeks. We are genetically indoeuropean too and we are genetically close to Southern Italians.
