This is true. There were also fairly advanced civilizations in North America, but they were already gone by the time the Europeans came. The Natives in Central and South America were particularly sophisticated in astronomy, though they were still quite barbaric--at least the Aztecs were. It was probably for the better that they ( the Aztecs) got wiped out.

The extreme bias of the OP and many others is almost laughable. Genocide? Do you even know what it is? Because if you do, and you are educated, then you would know that term does not at all apply.

Furthermore, what should we do about what's been done in the past? Am I inherently bad because I'm white and whites have done bad things in the past? Do I owe someone for acts I didn't do? Should I give up my home?

What is the point of even arguing this?

 

The best argument I've heard for why we should bare no blame for things our ancestors did applied to slavery but the same can be said for this example too. If you or I commit mass murder or we steal millions of dollar from a bank or whatever, we should expect to get punished if we are caught. But how can we also hold all your family and all your children and your children's children responsible for this act. We can't, and that's why we don't. When you commit a crime, only those who committed the crime are punished and it would be stupid to try and blame your children for your crime. But somehow it's not stupid when we're talking about slavery or European colonisation..

The Europeans had hugely advanced civilisations also and yet this thread is almost trying to reduce them to savages. Infact, history pretty much shows that the more advanced you get as a culture, the more your killing power increases and you're able to take over countries at your whim. Advanced cultures tend to expand, and less advanced cultures seem to remain and often are victims to the aforementioned culture's expansions.

You haven't been paying attention the Average Mexican these days is more Mayan genetically than not. And there are one hole hell of a lot of Mayan influences in Roman Catholic Traditions in Mexico even now. By the WAy without the Mayas the Spanish don't beat the Aztecs.
