Yes! The wall! And Trump! They're at fault. I'm SO glad someone understands...

That food is strictly regulated by the benevolent government so there is nothing to worry about. Just stop thinking so much and submit to your government overlords.

All it takes is some undercooked chicken, some mayo left out too long. Time or temperature abuse.

Why are you arguing with me? I agree that when money changes hands it makes an otherwise safe meal more dangerous. There is no need to be contrarian.

once that happened, the law would get involved... that did not happen here

what makes it different if she invited to them to her house to eat or gave it to them.....

this is like the kids selling lemonade issue imo

about 15 years ago, I used to buy Mexican food from a co-worker, his mom made it.... she did it maybe two times a year, but it was the best, it was also cheap, probably at cost, she did it cause she loved to do it

What about home-made cookies? These are literally sold everywhere(and yeah, some of them are craptastic.) but no one goes to jail over them.

I'm going to make a sandwich. I just wish a federal official was there to make sure the mayo is fresh. I have no way of telling and if I'm wrong, it might not taste very good.

I think you missed the profit context part. You know, when money exchanged hands and this became stopped being about being nice or giving and became about something else.

As for food borne illness, it is an epidemic. We have no clue how large, because few people with the symptoms coming for home are tested. its assumed to be the 'flu' or a bug.

My ex was in the catering business and had to comply with strict food licensing laws. He never complained and I appreciated the fact that these laws existed myself. The public should be guaranteed that the food they pay for is clean and safe. You can become deathly ill or actually die from bacteria laden food or food prepared under unsanitary conditions, especially the young or elderly. I don't believe that this woman should go to jail unless she has already been warned and ignored the laws. She should be encouraged to obtain the proper licensing and maybe even be qualified for financial aid to get what is necessary to enable her to earn her living this way.

I agree...I eat out about half my meals for over 20 years. I have had major food poisoning twice...both times from restaurants and both times from undercooked chicken. So I agree that my overlords, as Ethereal so eloquently put it, at the health dept are there to make sure things like that don't happen.

Good intentions are not a guarantee that your food will be safe. Only the benevolent hand of the state can do that.

Make sure you call the feds the next time you make a sandwich. You could die!

This was basically running a restaurant without proper certification. Why should she be allowed to bypass laws and gain an unfair advantage of a legitimate business owner that got the Serve Safe certificate and has regular health inspections? If a restaurant is serving food unfit for human consumption the health inspector shares the blame.

I know. Nobody knows anything about the kitchen that food was cooked in, or whether the fridge works right, or whether how she thawed the meat. Its fine for healthy adults to take risks, but I would not let my toddler sample high risk foods and I might steer my 83 year old grandmother away.

Stop!!! Just go to burger King...that way we can make sure you don't get food poisoning. I seriously worry about your safety making your own sandwiches and all. I mean thank God those things don't happen at restaurants monitored by the dept of health. I mean what incentive would a restaurant have to make sure they don't sicken people with undercooked chicken or left out mayo? Other than repeat business and money I really can't think of any incentives.

It's a risk I have to take. I don't have my government nanny to look over my shoulder right now. God willing, that will change one day.

That's a pretty ignorant statement and it clearly shows that you know nothing of the commercial food industry. You want to sell your food? You need to practice safe food handling and be able to prove it...end of story.

Cops go on social media to find criminal activities. Apparently selling food without a permit is against the law and considered a criminal activity. I don't agree with the law, but it's something that I, as a citizen, have to abide by. I think the only reason this is an issue with you is because it was a minority. If the person was white you'd say what I'm saying.

the problem may be determining when 'Grandma' is running a restaurant from her kitchen. You think the place matters, I think the exchange of money for food matters. That is when 'business' starts happening, and those laws need to be applied. Grandma better not be making change.

Yes...I have come to expect these laws from my benevolent government. I am glad they are there to prevent me from getting sick. I mean my grandma never made me sick like the aforementioned restaurants but maybe she just got lucky?

Ps...I never went back to those two large chain restaurants. That's how it should be. They mess up and they lose my business. It's between them...and me.

    OK...back to Sunday night football.

The issue in the OP proved my point. We have food regulations in the USA and if you did not know that, the story in the OP should have alerted you...Jeez!

yeah some woman might actually have to pay a fine for breaking a law after she was warned. Now that is scary stuff. That poor poor victim. Can't have accountability apply to sweet women in aprons, can we.
