At least a felon would have notice of surrendering there rights. This law strips your right to due process as well. if allowed it will spread like fire across the states. It looks innocent and well intended however it can easy be misused to take someone's gun's with out the someone having any notice. Hence no due process, good luck getting your guns back if they were to be confiscated. And good luck getting the prosecutor to prosecute false filings.

Look at what happened in Louisiana after the Gun confiscations, after the Court ordered the Guns to be returned, many were missing from property, others were reduced to junk from being improperly stored, others were damaged from poor handling etc.... The mistake was made by the attorneys handling the suit was to forgoe monetary damages and claims for losses and liability.

the people who ordered those confiscations should be doing life without parole in federal prison

This requires a constitutional amendment. Good luck.

    This violates the constitution.

The above only applies if the courts in the united states actually agree with your argument. Otherwise it ultimately amounts to nothing but opinion.

Unfortunately, we've seen recently that the 2nd, 7th and 9th Circuit Courts don't seem to care about what the Constitution says.

Even the united states supreme court has shown examples of not caring what the constitution says. The list of such cases is what could be classified as staggering.

Ironically, it was the Republicans under Reagan and Bush who took away people's weapons.

Naturally enough, forum right wingers still praise & worship them.

What weapons were taken away under Reagan and Bush? Note: I voted for neither.

Was it Republicans or local law enforcement that illegally confiscated weapons? Did they do so in the name of the Party or using the power of their office?

Democrats under Bill Clinton murdered their own children. Is that a Clinton problem?

Edit: firearm confiscations after Katrina were undertaken at the orders of Superintendent Eddie Compass, under the authority of the New Orleans mayor, a Democrat. National Guard soldiers under the control of the governor of Louisiana, another Democrat, were also given the orders to confiscate legally owned firearms from local residents.

No weapons were taken under Reagan and Bush.

Under Reagan, though, the Hughes amendment was passed, which stopped allowing new machine guns to be sold to civilians under NFA.

Not sure what happened during GHW Bush. The Brady Bill and AWB were passed under Clinton.

It happened while Bush was in office, and so Bush confiscated them.
Never mind that the city and country governments (and thus, their law enforcement) were run by Democrats.

What you are referring to did not happen. And even if it did, you are obligated to present proof of your claim. You cannot simply tell others to perform a search to look for what you claim to exist, because you do not wish to do the work yourself. You either substantiate your own claim, or you do not make it to begin with.

Are we making up the facts that the chief of police of New Orleans, acting under authority of a Democratic mayor issued the confiscation orders, including orders to National Guard under the authority of a Democratic governor? Only the most myopic of posters would lay those gun confiscations at the feet of the President.

Your ignorance is shown once again.

As we have discussed there are FEDERAL troops including California state police in those videos under authority of your hero Bush. Stop the fakery by pretending that it did not happen.

Like I said, I didn't vote for Bush either time, so he isn't my hero. When did California state police turn into federal troops?

    https://www.thetrace.org/2015/08/nra-hurricane-katrina-gun-confiscation/

The article claims that federal forces were instructed not to confiscate guns.

Now do your homework by watching videos on YT and see them participate in those criminal and unconstitutional raids.
