Hopefully Trump puts Rahm in his sights first. Defund sanctuary cities, and start right there.

 

He should build Emanuel a shiny new office in the middle of Englewood.

Emmanuel has already fired the first shot across the bow responding to Trump's 60 Minutes interview.

Trump has the law on his side, undoubtedly and after his successful presidential run, where he has certainly made no bones about cracking down on illegal immigration, he has popular opinion on his side.
If he deports gangsters and law breakers out of the country what leg does Emmanuel have to stand on?

The real interesting development will be Trump instituting "touch back" amnesty and beefing up the law on the border as a way of untying this Gordian Knot of
illegal immigration. If successful, the issue will be absolutely taken away from the left and it could place Hispanics in the republican corner for decades to come.

Well see how the details work out, but right now it seems like an astute move and realistic solution to a decades old problem. The border MUST be sealed off, however for it all to work.

 

Yes I agree, I will like to see if Trump will follow through with his statement about 'Sanctuary Cities' being required to follow federal law or lose their funding. Remember when the State of Arizona attempted to emulate Federal Immigration laws, Obama swatted them down with a Supreme Court decision on the key provisions of Arizona’s immigration law. The decision by Obama will be the two edged sword to close down Sanctuary Cities like Chicago, San Francisco, New Orleans, New York City, etc....Setting immigration policy and enforcing immigration laws is a national responsibility. Seeking to address the issue through a patchwork of state laws only creates more problems than it solves.

Jurisdiction and the Supremacy Clause:

If Trump fails to try and keep the majority of his major campaign promises -- and this certainly is one of those -- then the Right will punish him, and he will become a one term president. The Right is NOT like the Left.

The Right expects the candidate to more or less be true to his or her promises. Obama urinated all over the Left after becoming president because he promised them the moon and the starts and they foolishly believed him, and then of course he couldn't deliver on much of anything; but it didn't matter since leftists essentially worshiped him. Trump on the other hand mostly promised things that are generally within the realm of the doable; and so he'd better at least TRY and get the majority of them done.

It's going to be a very interesting next four years. One thing for certain, though; if he does manage to accomplish even two-thirds of what he promised then we are going to hear leftist arteries start popping from high blood pressure all across this nation. Sweet!

 

Well (respectfully) Duh! He IS the democratic Party mayor of Chicago and so OF COURSE the lives of legal citizens mean absolutely nothing to him whatsoever in comparison to keeping himself in power and enriched.

 

Most conservatives will be satisfied with the wall, deportation of the 3 mill criminals and sanctuary cities not protecting those criminals either. After that an immigration policy for the remaining would be nice and I think it's possible sooner than later.

That Emanuel is a spineless, deflecting, halfwit, he can't get his city under control so he throws this out. If I was Trump I would just quietly turn off the water to those federal funds and when they get thirsty? They will break

I'm up for it. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've lost too many friends to the crimes of illegals. I'm too ticked off to care how ugly it gets.

 

Five dead and 32 wounded last weekend in Chicago. And a grinning Rahm Emanuel claims that illegal aliens (gang members no doubt) are safe in Chicago. This is why Trump won the election. The elites have armed body guards whilst the low income are dead in the streets. It's to the point of declaring a state of emergency and instituting martial law to address the domestic terrorism in the streets of many of our large cities. Unfortunately to do so requires the cooperation of local authorities - and Rahm ain't on board with protecting his own people. This could be part of the Trump illegal immigration plan. Sweeps could be made on known gang locations and illegal alien criminals and guns could be deported and confiscated. Concurrently Kate's Law could be passed and if any of these illegal alien felons returns to the US and is apprehended they receive a five year sentence.

 

Chicago may still be a Sanctuary for Immigrants, for illegal immigrants, people unauthorized to be here and broke the law to get here. But Chicago isn't a safe sanctuary for it citizens, for everyone lawfully here. I think old Rahm and everyone who lives in Chicago for him to do something about making Chicago a safer city than worrying about illegals.

 

That's going to be key. If he does manage to deport a few million people who are actually bad people, when does it stop? Why not get every single one out? Perhaps their families as well? Why not muslims, too?

I agree. Turn off the federal funds spigot and then announce to the nation that you have done just that, making it very plain that as soon as the mayor AND the governor conform to federal laws then the money spigot re-opens.

I have worked side by side with hundreds of illegal aliens.

I have close friends who are illegal aliens.
