if russia can invade ukraine to protect russians, Turkey can invade syria to protect turks.

see, this is the kind of dangerous precedents being set by crimea... Now everyone will just start invading everyone in order to "protect their own people". it will be chaos. Russia did it, now everyone else will think they can do it too.

I doubt this will be the first "nationalist war"..

How many are ethnic Turks and how many are Turkmen from the Central Asian States ...that might have been sent in to increase the Turkish population? It has been done many times in the past to claim an area. ..specifically a city since the Turks have never been urban people.

Russia did not invade Ukraine, if it did the American installed junta in Kiev wouldn't have survived more than two days. As for Crimea, the troops were there to protect the civilians from the illegal junta until a referendum could be held.

Putin warned NATO when NATO invaded Serbia, and separated Kosovo. Putin proposed a common security system in Europe, but fools decided that they will crush Russia. NATO aggression has led to the fact that Russia has invested a lot of money in the army.

don't know. but it is very likely that Turkey is tired of other countries deciding their security situation. Turkey sees the USA support kurds, Russia support Assad.. Maybe turkey just thinks, "we have our own interests and we will pursue them, fck what anyone else thinks". erdogans comment hinted on that. basically, he's following a "turkey first" policy.

Turkey says that 5 million Crimean Tatars live in Turkey. And they all want to go to the Crimea))) USA wanted to have military base in Crimea that to organize the genocide of Russian as the Serbs.

Russia has a historical affinity towards Syria... as does Iran and there is no way Turkey will ever be allowed to take even one inch of it. Turkey is very hated in Syria. ..and not only because of its past, but because it has continued those genocidal policies in Syria through its proxies Al Nusra and ISIS these past years.

The only agreement Russia and Iran will come to with Turkey, is the treatment and the rights of the Turkomans in Syria. Maybe Syria will even be federated ...that is if Assad agrees to it. He might have to though because of the Kurds.

Here is an excerpt from the Russian think tank Katehon of what's going on between Russia, Iran and Turkey...

It needs to be repeated over and over again that Russia and Iran's support for Syria is unwavering and non-negotiable, and that no amount of pipeline deals or anti-terrorist cooperation can be used to "buy them out", as their complementary policies towards Damascus are driven by concrete geostratgic principles which work out to their supreme self-interests.

Nothing can override the unchanging geopolitical facts which underpin their commitments to Syria, which is why anybody alleging that any of these countries has "sold out" either doesn't have a mature enough understanding about the situation to be publicly commenting on it or might perhaps have deeper ulterior motives depending on their professional stature.

Turks have been cruel always . They made the Armenian genocide. Turks continue the genocide of the Kurds.

Kremlin asks Erdogan to clarify ‘anti-Assad’ goals in Syria

"The statement was indeed news, this is a very serious statement. [It] is in discord with the previous [statements] in general and with our understanding of the situation," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"We hope that in the near future there will be explanations on this from our Turkish partners," he said, adding that Russia is the only country whose armed forces are in Syria on a legitimate basis – at the direct request of the Syrian authorities.

*** WOW! *** Thank you so much for letting us know about the katehon.com site. What a treasure trove of information and very thought-provoking analysis. I'll be visiting it very often, going forward.

I hadn't thought that Erdogan was "fooling" anybody -- least of all Vladimir Putin. But I had thought that after the big pipeline agreement in October, perhaps Erdogan had decided to partner with Russia and bring about changes in Syria that would be more beneficial than previous methods. One thing is certain -- Putin will always do what is good for Russia, and that is exactly what he needs to do.

But I didn't know how much the Syrians and Turks hate each other. Not that I've thought that much about it. Thank you for helping to sort this out. You are, I believe, in possession of the best analysis overall of what's going on there today.

From what I read an American base in Crimea would have controlled the Black Sea and would have enabled Nato to reach Russia's nuclear missiles in the Urals. The purpose of the coup was because of Crimea, and there was no way an anti Russian government could have been elected in Ukraine. There was too close a connection between Russia and Eastern and Southern Ukraine, and there were too many trade deals between Russia and the Donbas.

You might be right though about the genocide, because Turkey did have dreams of grabbing Crimea... and it frightened Ukraine. The Tatars who were moving back were living in squalor and Ukraine refused to raise their living conditions. It wasn't until Russia took over that they were allowed to use their own language in school.

Turkey finally renewed its diplomatic relations with Israel, but it still doesn't have any with: Egypt, Cyprus, Armenia, Syria and I believe Lebanon... so as a country it is not very well liked.

As for Katehon, I might not agree with all their articles, but the best way to find out how Vladimir Putin thinks other than reading his speeches, would be to watch the videos by the Russian political scientist Alexander Dugan on Katehon. He's very philosophical and one of Putin's advisers.

So if this is true that there is a secret collusion between Erdogan and Putin,
what would be Assad's next move when he is about to be expelled away from Syria?.
so much trust will kill you this time for him, relying so much with force of another and not entirely with his force as a leader.
He would be hapless this time I think.

There has been a Christian genocide going on in Syria by Al Nusra which hasn't been publicized. Al Nusra is armed by Turkey and supported by Saudi Arabia and they are the ones in East Aleppo the militants are embedded with.

The outcry about civilian deaths by the Syrian army, which if at all was minimal compared to those killed by the terrorists in Aleppo, was to stop the Syrian army from freeing the area so it could remain in the hands of Al Nusra and become a Wahabbi Sunni caliphate..

The US wants to implement the global strike concept. For this all air defense systems is done on a container basis and at any time USA can replace the container with an antimissile into the container with hypersonic nuclear warheads. Not right now, but in 5 - 10 years yes. USA wanted the hands of the Turks to carry out genocide of the Russian population of Crimea and to squeeze out the Russian fleet from the Crimea. Many members of this forum will be very happy if someone have killed a lot of Russian.

The title of this thread has been corrected by Erdogan. The Turkish army is there for "terrorism". Not to overthrow Assad. At least this is "the correction" given by him.

As for "a country that is not very well liked" thing. Who really gives a damn about those Egypt, Cyprus, Armenia and Syria or Lebenon? It really doesn't matter whether they like Turkey or not. They are not policy makers. The US is the number one country that is "the most disliked". But really is that a thing? We all know that the US is also most appreciated for many great things. Besides the Middle east is that terrible place that everyone hates everybody in there. That supposed to be "Ottoman lover" Erdogan has finally realised this.

As for the main issue, Turkey has lost in Syria. This is damn obvious. Erdogan just tries to cover it. Not only Turkey lost, but also Obama-Clinton administration also failed so badly. Obama-Clinton-Erdogan-Saudi-Qatar baked Jihadists lost the war for ever. Turkey is one of the most suffered countries besides Syria in this damn war.

This is almost hilarious! So now Erdogan has decided that he, uh, didn't know what the hell he was saying in the first place or something? Here's this morning's latest gyration in this bizarre Erdogan dysfunction: https://www.rt.com/news/368863-erdogan-syria-backtracks-putin/ .

No doubt that phone call Erdogan had with Vladimir Putin after Erdogan's initial pronouncement about overthrowing Assad would have been very entertaining to listen to.... :roflol: I'll bet Putin ripped his ass like a runaway chainsaw! Had Erdogan guzzled too much of that syrupy coffee the Turks like to drink, or what? OK, everything's back on track now... Vladsky's in command in Syria, boys and girls, and things are now back to "normal".

The most logical explanation is, Erdogan said that for domestic consumption. But apparently the words had an international impact so he had to step back.

Also as a side not this whole Syrian war might be a sign for the end of the US political domination in the world. From now on we might have to hear more about what Kremlin thinks about world issues rather than the white house.

Turkey lost only in the sense that they hoped for territorial gain in Syria... and were working towards that end. Saudi Arabia lost too in that it invested a lot of money into overthrowing Assad and extending its Wahabism into Damascus ...or if not, forming an enclave that could eventually accomplish that.

What they didn't realize was Russia's re-emergence politically ...something many countries were hoping for to re-balance the hegemonic ambitions of the US...

True and I like to add that normalization between Israel and Turkey is not based on "likes" far from it, I think many posters here that live and breath the social web daily are getting confused about the power of popularity, claps and likes mean nothing to policies.

Uhhh, not really, Turkey's still part of Nato. Erdogan's being realistic, I mean he doesn't want to lose Istanbul. Moscow will never allow Turkey to satisfy its ambitions towards Syria.

What Erdogan said about Assad being a brutal dictator came out of frustration for losing Aleppo. He felt the same frustration the last time his plans were hindered. ..this is why the plane was shot down.

uh yes really. Erdogan says something, putin makes a call, and erdogan takes it back. that means they're in their sphere. It doesn't mean russia will let them do anything. on the contrary, it means russia will decide for them.
