You have it barse - ackwards. RESPECT, is acknowledging that our identity is a social negotiation, not an ego decision. We have no right to demand the world see us as we see ourselves, and doing so makes us a raving narcissist. The world will see us as it will, regardless of what we imagine we are.

Further, good manners is allowing people to make their own decisions about us. Anything else is outrageously rude.

 

The problem is most politicians campaign on promises that most want to hear and do the exact opposite once elected. While what they campaign on doesn't usually sound "crazy", what they actually do once in office would sound crazy if they actually campaigned on it.

Fortunately no politician has even tried to do anything nearly as crazy as what Manning is advocating. It wouldn't be possible anyway unless the wing-nut left gained full control in Washington.

For your purposes none of that matters. Most of what you view and think is male or female is never confirmed on any level beyond appearance anyway. As a matter of fact if you went around confirming things on a physical level for every person you meet you would quickly find yourself tossed in jail for sexual assault. You can pretend all you want, but your evaluation and knowledge of who is male and female is almost solely based on gender construct and appearance as you never see an actual penis or vagina on most people you meet. For all you really know or are allowed to know every woman you meet and treat as a woman may have been born male.

Like I said miss manning does not need your approval. She can be as much of a woman as you require and you really are not going to do much about it. If you passed her on the street you are not going to even get a moment to find out. If you took a moment to physically confirm she had a penis you would be tossed in jail because it is not your job. You will play along because if you go challenging every questionable person out there you will quickly find yourself fired and talking to the police because no one has to put up with your crap.

 

Please tell me where your opinion makes a difference? She is out there living as a woman every day and you do not do a thing about it. If you tried to you would be breaking the law and fall on the bad side of the police because you don't get to do anything about it. Aside from voicing your opinion here I do not see you doing much to stop her from being a her, and the state seems to accept her as a female so you do not have any say over that.

 

She demands you see her as a woman and you will see her as a woman walking down the street. We pretty much agree there. No one is forcing her to look like a man. She can certainly go portray herself as a woman and if you start making a fuss you step out of line with the law and harassment is illegal. You do not get to follow people around yelling at them or stopping them from doing there thing in society. So yes you will be forced to comply with respecting her existence or else you will break the law and be charged as appropriate and tossed in jail.

You can go have your opinion, but let us not pretend that is stopping her or any other transsexual from doing their thing. Aside from a trivial opinion can you explain how your disagreement manifests in any way that prevents miss manning from being a woman?

 

If he wants to go make his skin green and walk about like a lizard there is nothing stopping him from doing so. You don't get to go up to him and make him stop doing that. As far as he is obeying the laws he gets to identify how he pleases. I am not really sure where you come in at all. You are not required to regard him in any way at all. You mind your own business. He does not get to lick you or anything, but as long as he is doing his thing your opinion is trivial.

 

That's the way it should be in all cases, whether its some crazy identifying as a lizard or some guy claiming to be a woman, they are entitled to do that and I am entitled to my opinion of it. I should not be expected or required to call a man a lizard or to call a he a she.

 

Unless you have a job where you are required to do something for a company or the public and they cannot have you discriminating in order to try and force people to be who you want them to be, no one is making you do a thing. As a society where it is harmful to a group of people to deny them services which others get based on other factors aside from ability to pay, we cannot let a group of people be penalised by your opinion. However, no one is requiring you to act in any way you do not wish to on your own time as long as you are not harassing or harming others. You can hate trans and gay people all day long and say bad things about them. No one is going to toss you in jail for it. However some private places may not give you space to do it. I am not required to let you spout to all my customers on my dime if I am Facebook or something like that. However you can do it all day long on your dime as long as you are not denying services to paying customers. You are free to step out of providing services for others if you do not wish to, but then you have to find your own way to pay for your ****. No one forces you to work if you do nothing want to do the job which requires servicing everyone. You can go be unemployed and never have to do a thing for a gay wedding, black people, jews, Hispanics, women, children, or whoever.
