I would point out that our sanctions have very greatly impacted our allies economies. Ignoring that is just lazy. Protectionism exists. Perhaps the point of the threat of tariffs was to expose that those now exist and should be remedied?

It melted at the temp it was supposed to melt at. The fireproofing got blown off it.

Take that to the conspiracy basement if you want to go further with it...but yes..they are compatible

    Ahahahahahha typical leftists.

Yeah, and whats funny is all those leftists in Europe and Canada are whining about what Trump said. Despite what the US Commerce Dept recommended.

These figures are higher than the 24% tariff on steel and 7% tariff on aluminum that the Commerce Department recommended in a February 16 report. Reports indicated Trump was leaning toward 25% on steel because it is a "round number." ......snip~

    http://www.businessinsider.com/trump...ade-war-2018-3

Oh my God......that 1% difference that Trump was rounding off to has the leftists all up in arms and panicking.

Even that 3% difference isn't enough for the mopes to start whining about a Trade War.

Go ahead Canada and Europe retaliate.....make your bed and snuggle Right in.

Notice how the lames don't say nothing about China dumping all that defective steel.

maybe, but its still too far to effectively be used in modern Just-In-Time manufacturing here in America.

Backwards, you are so uninformed about economics that it would be a Herculean task to even try here in this forum. And worse, no matter what I say, you will continue calling it "Trump BS."

So why bother. I'm having fun rationally tearing apart your arguments.

    Ya got 'em there. LOL

The first lesson in economics is "opportunity cost." Dems lost an opportunity to recover seats they've lost over the years when they decided to stay their leftist course and try to get Trump impeached. Time was wasted doing it and will backfire on them.

I read the cliff notes on Dave (Wikipedia). Interesting guy. Does his thinking translate to the 21st Century? I have no clue.
Trump is doing NOTHING with China as far as trade practices go. Like it has been said, we can talk about these tariffs but nothing will happen. Trump need a diversion from his daughter's "problems".

Why 25%? There's about a ton of steel in an average car. Today's price of steel puts that at $700 ish.

    . 25 of 700 = 175.

Average auto cost? Say $35,000. $175 will not determine the sale. That what 0.5%?

I did think it was quite Hillaryarious like, when the leftist economists purposely forgot what the Commerce Dept was recommending just to dump on Trump.

Naturally the Lame Stream rolled with it rather than report accurately.

Trump's 'easy win' trade war is a no-win situation for Wall Street and Main Street

    https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/02/tru...ituation-for-wall-street-and-main-street.html

President Donald Trump says trade wars are "easy to win," but history suggests otherwise.

Trade-related disputes with Japan and Germany helped precipitate the Crash of '87, while the 1930s Smoot-Hawley tariffs triggered "beggar-thy-neighbor" trade polices and turned a great recession into The Great Depression.

The latter is the most frequently cited example of how protectionist trade legislation or executive actions can lead to trade wars, harming the domestic and global economies.

And while it's still too early to say if the Trump will follow through with proposed tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum, moving forward in that regard could lead to retaliatory measures by many countries, including some of our closest allies like Canada, Germany, along with the European Union more broadly, and South Korea.

David Frum, in an article in The Atlantic, outlines some additional, and relatively recent, risks about how punitive tariffs have hurt specific industries, individual workers and the overall economy

Wilbur looks like a moron holding up that can. Perhaps he should think about things that require more than a few ounces of tin plate steel.

Only 2% of imported steel is from China.....it's a red herring.

"Fair trade" (which is really just a euphemism for protectionism) helps a few--specifically, those whose jobs would otherwise be affected, and their immediate families--while negatively affecting most, as a result of higher consumer prices.

The real question is: Are we willing to put up with the latter, in order to benefit from the former?

For the record, I am not.

In most areas, I agree with President Trump.

But on this particular matter, I disagree. Emphatically.

Note: One would hope that there would not be some gleeful piling on here, by those who never liked Donald Trump to begin with; and who just want to use anything handy as a cudgel, with which to beat the man...
