I should say that your ditty about lesson plans not including protesting is obviously a bit of cute hyperbole. Just because something is allowed as an activity during or school does not mean you are teaching it. School allow dances and proms does that you are teaching dancing? There ate sex education classes does that mean you are fostering sexual activity between kids? Now done have saybthat you are by teaching sex ed.

We have VERY strict guidelines regarding not only WHAT we can teach but also HOW. Given that you mentioned Sex Ed, I have indeed taught it - and in my district, we have a binder full of lessons approved by both the board and consulting parents and local citizens that we are not allowed to deviate from. Perhaps you are aware of the district policies in place regarding teaching protesting? I would love to read about them - I'm looking at the policies online at my own district and I'm afraid I can't find any.

Also, my school does have a dance and drama elective for the 6-8th graders so we do indeed teach that. Also, proms and after-school dances are just that - activities after school.

If that's a sample of your logic skills, you've lost all credibility.

If the school let him skip class unsupervised, yes. My youngest is 16 and he knows better. His school system wouldn’t support this nonsense either.

They didn't let him skip school. Little doubt that he and his friends regularly skipped school. Other than expel the boy there is nothing else than could be done if the parents did not care

No I am not aware of any state policies that have lesson plans for protesting and there better not be. I could see that at some large university that has resources to waste they may have a history course in protests and the effect of protests.

When my daughter entered middle school us oarents were asked to come to an " information session" and we were "informed " about the curricula of sex ed. Most of us looked at each other shook our heads and thought WTF.

An 11 year old would (or rather, should) not be wandering streets unsupervised. Most parents would not have allowed it, and yet the school did allow it.

Sure it isn't. Kindergartners should be allowed to come and go at their leisure.

Exactly. Those kindergarten kids don't need any supervision by schools. I mean, Jeez, they're 5. Practically adults.

The unanswered question is whether its in-spite of intensive sex education or because of it

I'm still shaking my head at that figure. Even if it's an approximation, it's insane. In all the years of my kids' attending a very large public high school, there hasn't been a single pregnancy (there may have been a few conceptions, but none that anyone was aware of).

Edited to say that IMO, it's because of sex ed. Or rather, sex ed and terrible parenting, combined.
