There are no reports of looting despite widespread damage from the massive earthquake. Around 2/3rds of Alaskans own guns. Is there any correlation? I have heard it said that an armed society is a civil society.
I would say that it is more like 95% of households own firearms...and most know how to hunt and fish from a very young age.
Or maybe it has something to do with 100% of Alaskans having a government subsidy just for living there.
Alaska is pretty white, not many negoes or illegal aliens with brown faces. During the Los Angeles riots of 1992, 90% of those who were arrested for looting were illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America.
When people have to leave in a hurry the first thing looters look for is jewelry. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life...fornia-wildfire-looters-shot-site/1996302002/ Which is why the National Guard cordoned off the wealthiest residential areas near the beach here with razor wire and patrolled the area after Katrina. That gave the hard hit local police a lot of relief, and they could concentrate on helping average folks.
Looters are human beings and human beings do not like to get shot. IOW, Where looters will be shot there will be very little looting.
Yes, the MSM focused almost exclusively on black American rioters in LA when they were a minor factor. MSM = Fake News, Racist Fake News
According to the LAPD, 90% of the looters were illegal aliens mostly from Central America. Blacks were responsible for most of the arson, violence and assaults and murders during the riot. Black's kept the looting to liquor, beer, Nikes, guns and televisions and appliances. Hispanics went for the Pampers first. LAPD officers were deputized as Deputy U.S. Marshals so they could arrest illegal aliens before they got to the shopping centers to loot.
I watched the rioting while watching three televisions and went into L.A. on the first day the curfew was lifted. It wasn't a race riot as the left claimed, the vast majority of the rioters were brown and not Americans. In East L.A. where the Americans of Mexican descent live there was no rioting. Even the Mexican-American gangs in East L.A. made sure nobody burnt down their neighborhoods. On the first day they lifted the curfew I had to drop a friend off at LAX. On my way back to the OC I decided to drive through the riot area with a M-1911 sitting on the seat next to me. I decided to drive east on Century Blvd to the 110 freeway. As soon as I passed Inglewood Ave. every gas station, liquor store, supermarket was burnt to the ground. But I noticed that every person I saw had brand new shoes. There were National Guardsmen on every corner.
I was actually embarrassed as an American watching what was happening when government fails and those who are dependent on government turn to anarchy when government isn't around to watch over them. We saw the same thing in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina when a population who has the government monkey on their backs and government isn't there to hold their hands they turn to violence and looting. They say if the epicenter of the 1994 Northridge quake were have been thirty or so miles further to the south like in central L.A there would have been mass looting and anarchy taking place.
I doubt that $2000 per resident per year has much to do with it. You would have to be just a bit crazy to loot when you know that there is someone nearby who has a firearm and knows how to use it.
Louisiana isn't exactly known as a liberal gun-hating state and there was looting after Katrina. Same with looting in Houston. Both gun-loving states, but neither had universal basic income like Alaska does.
$2000/year/resident is not going to go that far. I have relatives in Alaska and have visited them. Just about everyone shoots. and they take pride in their ability to shoot. A popular sign up there is something to the effect "Alaskan Women Don't Retreat. They Reload". It is a matter of pride. It is simply not the same as Texas or Louisiana.
$2,000 a year is a lot of money when you are impoverished. It's apparently the line between looting and not looting, because there's plenty of guns in Texas and Louisiana and guns didn't stop looting there.
