I think we all figured a certain percentage of "asylum seekers" would just fade away once they got here, but 90% not showing up for hearings is shockingly high.

I've also long been suspicious of the validity of the "asylum" claims, and this suspicion sounds justified as well.

Lindsey Graham has pushed for establishing processing centers in Mexico and Central America, rather than letting the so-called "asylum seekers" all use "asylum" as a free pass to gain entry to the US, and I have long supported that plan. It would be great if Mexico really would cooperate with us on this.

Thoughts? Did any of you suspect this many "asylum seekers" weren't even showing up for hearings?

File this under: No **** Sherlock.

Asylum seekers my ass. This is the sole fault of the Democrats. No one else. Their anti trump stance is already costing the American taxpayers billions to pay for these illegal freeloaders!

Not shocked. Its probably been that way for a while, and wouldn't 'be surprised if the Obama administration lied about their numbers for 8 yrs. There is not a single soul that can legally claim asylum at the current time. There are too many other countries bordering their own that they can live in first. Mexico is a big place. You can just move to a different city. And any country south of Mexico has to claim asylum in Mexico first.

The thing is Mexico is going to crumble and when that happens, we're completely ****ed! That's why we need a wall now. To prepare for the eventual World War Z style onslaught of 10s of millions that will head our way....which will end life as we know it, destroy our economy and in turn destroy the world's.

What could we do to stop millions of people who would loot and pillage every border city as they spread north. All we could is use deadly force, which will be very messy. Our military is here to protect U.S. citizens. It's not going to be pretty.

But... but... but... Democrats told us this wouldn't happen!

Our national sovereignty is lost until Democrats are replaced in the U.S. Congress. We do not have a border. We do not have a common language. We do not have a set of laws obeyed by all. We are not a nation until we restore our sovereignty.

I agree. The blame for this rests solely on the shoulders of Democrats. I think their anti-America anti-Trump stance on illegal immigration and border security is going to blow up in their faces.

Yeah, some of these border jumpers get picked up and then get a schedule to appear which may be two, three, and in some cases, up to five years down the road.

    Then they're let go...

But if I have a bit of weed, I go to jail. Makes sense.

Fox News contributor and former acting ICE Director Tom Homan, in an effort to inflate problems at the southern border, claimed “86%, almost 9 out of 10 families, aren't making it to court” for their asylum hearings, citing congressional testimony.

But the testimony Homan appears to be referring to actually showed that most such families do show up for their court cases -- which lines up with studies and results from an Obama administration program where the vast majority of families over a period of 10 years attended their hearings. The numbers Homan gave referred only to a pilot program launched by the Trump administration in late 2018.

On May 8, Acting Executive Associate ICE Director Nathalie Asher testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee that 87.5 percent of removal orders for cases in a limited Department of Justice pilot program to expedite family asylum cases within a year “were issued in absentia” when the persons didn’t appear for their cases. However, immigration lawyers say that this Trump administration pilot program could violate immigrants’ due process rights.

Asher’s testimony also stated that in fiscal year 2018, just 27.4% of family units failed to appear for their court dates -- far less than the “almost 9 out of 10 families” Homan claimed. Asher even admitted that the traditional program for these families “is effective in ensuring that its vetted participants show up to specified hearings.”

Other data also show that a sizeable majority of immigrants in recent years who are not detained attend their immigration court proceedings. Family units applying for asylum that participated in an Obama administration pilot program had nearly perfect attendance for their ICE check-ins and court hearings -- but the Trump administration canceled that program. And multiple studies and analyses have shown that the rate for several categories of asylum seekers had court hearing attendance rates of over 90%. Homan, who regularly appears on Fox to misinform on immigration and advocate for harsh measures against asylum seekers, has the numbers completely backwards.

I would love to know where the financing for this "poor souls" is coming from. It has to be more than cartel's cash involved.

    Of course

Most new filings have not been adjudicated yet

So most of the aliens who do not intend to appear have been identified yet

Reform? We need enforcement not reform.

Too bad Trump is the only one with balls to do it.

Ahh. We have a new thread now, I see.
Just a few posts ago 9 out of 10 hadn't appeared. Now they might not.
The OP was just wrong. Nine out of ten who were deported were no shows. Not nine out of 10 of the population.

9 out of 10 was not my number

But neither is the number you choose to believe

If we deport the aliens back to mexico the same day they arrive we will have no trouble with no-shows

Trump has tried to work with Dems time and time again.

They deny there is a border crisis.

Then like a Boss, Trump threatens tariffs on mexico and boom, they are on board.

The communist President of Mexico is more willing to work with Trump than democrats are.
