MAJORITY OF REPUBLICANS SAY COLLEGES ARE BAD FOR AMERICA (YES, REALLY)

    https://www.newsweek.com/republican...d-america-donald-trump-media-fake-news-634474

"A Pew Research Center survey published Monday revealed voters have grown apart in their support of secondary education since the 2016 presidential election season, when a majority of Democratic and Republican Americans agreed the nation's universities serve as a benefit for the U.S. Whereas 54 percent of Republicans said "colleges and universities had a positive impact on the way things were going in the country" in 2015, the majority now believe the opposite, with 58 percent saying such institutions negatively impact the state of the union."

My view: Universities bad for America? Seriously? One can agree or disagree on the usefulness of degrees in humanities, political science etc., but this is shocking that the majority of Republicans have moved so far to the right that they stop valuing education. This is, unfortunately, a regressive tendency that will undermine progress in the country.

What may be interesting, though, would be to look at admission records. My guess: Republicans publicly rant against universities, but they'll still send their children there to get degrees. Do Republicans put their money where their mouth is or not?

I think they're referring to the universities who are busy pushing a political agenda and charging $80,000 a year to do it.

It depends on the degree really.

For example, if you study liberal arts; you're an idiot.

Higher education is great, unfortunately Obama and the dems has the feds take over the student loan business and allowed colleges to jack up their rates with free money, which in turn has created massive amounts of debt...crushing students. But, folks like Warren got rich

These Republicans are still sending their kids to college, so claiming they said "Colleges are bad for America" is false and misleading. College professors are abusing their positions by selling their beliefs instead of educating students. They have gone as far as restricting free speech for those with opposing views. Is this generation of graduates (Millennials) better or worse than before?

    This.

College has become less an institution of higher learning, and more of a liberal indoctrination center. With a huge price tag ---- which Democrats are increasingly hinting they want us taxpayers to pay for. No thank you.

I worked thru college, and sacrificed, and paid for it myself. Now I own my own successful business and I pay too many damn taxes already, I'm not really interested in paying for some entitled skinny-jeans wearing Starbucks-drinking p*ssy-hat-knitting brat to go to college for his/her/x's liberal indoctrination. Thanks but no thanks. Screw college if that's what they're going for ---- especially if they want me to pay for it too.

I suspect the "Republican kids" are much more likely to go to college to get desirable degrees in in-demand fields which will insure good paying jobs and sound futures. They aren't the kids in the classes about "white privilege", "oppression", "trigger words", or "Beyonce", and they're not choosing "X" for gender on their admissions paperwork either.

There is also nothing wrong with going to trade school. That message has been gaining ground, and I support it. Maybe the snobbier Dems are labeling that as a Republican thing, who knows. There is no shame in having a solid middle-class blue-collar job. It's better to be an air-conditioner repairman or an auto mechanic or a welder or whatever else, than to graduate with $$$$$$$ debt and a degree in some field with zero hiring potential.

Told my daughter after she got out of the Marines to get a skill that cannot be farmed out to China and you may not get rich but you can feed your family . She took my advice and is on her way. I have numerous skills and will never have a hard time finding a job.

The question in the poll is not asking about the education value.....just the social value.

When looking at it from a social value, I can certainly understand the disdain. With colleges censoring who can speak at them, condoning student absences for protest work...and even promoting protests, the high cost to attend college, and the far left leaning of most of the professors, some would say the impact on society is negative.

Did you learn that obfuscation technique in college?

What a load a crap. I would bet you can't come up with more than a handful of examples. This same claim was going around when I was in college. I had a total of two professors who pushed a personal political opinion, for 9 weeks each.

Well the question asked wasn't "colleges and universities with a political agenda have a _____ impact on the way things were going in the country". It was "colleges and universities have a _____ impact on the way things were going in the country". There is really not a lot of ways how you can spin this answer.

Now why would it be places where highly educated people work are liberal institutions. If it's true that they are run by liberals, then the obvious conclusion is that learning makes people liberal. Or liberals are far more likely to be highly intelligent than are conservatives.

They passed legislation, it’s actually part of the first set of Obamacare Amendments. Called the Healthcare and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.

But that is part of the problem.

The question did not have to be asked with that specifically called out, it's just part of the problem. I don't want to spend $80K a year to have teachers and staff grill me to follow along with their flaming liberal beliefs. I also don't want to take classes about LGBTWQ pole dance theory or classes about why I'm privileged to be white.

    Colleges are liberal indoctrination centers.

Although they’re much better than our high schools where our young are taught the U.S. is a racist nation and the greatest force of evil on the planet.

My kid was subjected to the leftist Borg's indoctrination assimilation during his freshman orientation at Loyola Chicago. I asked him if it was insufferable torment, and he said "Nope, I didn't hear a word of it. AirPods."

He said he listened to Ben Shapiro podcasts the whole time.

That's my chip off the ol' blockhead.
