Hmmmm this is a tough one. If you look at the application it is in a framed display as an historical archive as many in the comments note. It is NOT his application to join the KKK or an application for any current KKK group. It's like something that if I am going through old documents in an antique store and would find and go WOW what a find an actual KKK application my friends will get a kick outta this. NOT because I wanted to join the KKK or supported the KKK.

Is that reason to fire him. There is no indication of any white supremacist things in his life or people noted it seems.

What if it was a black officer and there was an application from the 1950's to join the Farrakhan's Nation of Islam of some other black militant group would they be fired?

And as one commenter noted is it legal even if you are touring the house as a prospective buyer to take such a picture and post it or give it to anyone. You would also think that if he is showing his house and knows people would see the picture and he was a KKK and didn't want anyone to know he would have taken it down but apparent he must have thought people would get it.

Ku Klux Klan application found in US police officer's home

A police officer in Michigan was terminated on Thursday after a prospective homebuyer who had been touring the officer’s house posted a picture on social media of a framed Ku Klux Klan application he had seen there, spurring an internal investigation....

    upload_2019-9-14_16-42-22.png

...Anderson’s wife, Rachael Anderson, told WOOD-TV, a local television station, that her husband was not a Klan member. “He can’t say anything right now,” Rachael Anderson said. “I wish we could because it would probably set a lot of things straight.”

Should this be an issue? Firing issue?

Only an SJW would do such a thing.

    No, he shouldn't be fired.

The real issue is the infestation of white supremacists in law enforcement departments around the country that's been going on for several decades.

Lol...Collectors, eh? That kind of tat appeals to a certain clientele. Most of the mass murderers recently had lots of that sort of paraphernalia found in their homes.

Kind of a big brush you're painting with. I know a couple history professors - one of them Jewish - who have a number of WWII memorabilia at school or home, several of them Nazi pieces. There's also a guy I know who's a weapons buff and has a few Nazi guns in his collection among many others including a couple bazookas, although he's more into swords and maces.

There are people out there who bought John Wayne Gacy's paintings. People collect odd stuff.

Get Roy Moore's lawyer... He's a Jew, ya know...

LOL... I don't really know how I feel about this one... Obviously, he's a complete MORON for not taking this off the wall when showing his house to a buyer.... Who he should be suing is his real estate agent...

A firing offense?? I actually can go 50/50 on that one... as several others have pointed out, old document collection is a cottage industry, even distasteful ones...

But again... WHAT A COMPLETE MORON to have it on display during a showing......

The application is merely a collectable. But what about these people? On this board we've had posts defending people who wear the likeness of a racist, homophobic murderer.

The real issue here what I posted. Should he be fired for that frame historical item?

Would you hang a certificate of Membership in Hitler Youth or on Waffen SS up on your wall even it wasn't yours?

I could see crap like that in a museum or in a section of ones house dedicated to historic items. I would never
I would ever hang a Communist Party Membership card on my walls but in a museum section dedicated to evils of Communsm would be ok.

The way that KKK application form is framed in a wooden frame and hung on the wall looks like it it there a an act of honor as if someone would hang up a copy of the Declaration of Independence with reverence.

No he should not be fired for it. Yet that is not a statement of support for his action which I believe to be stupid. He is a stupid man.

I certainly wouldn't hang it up in my living room, maybe in an office or something like that as a reminder of our past - remember, the left is constantly reminding us of our past - constantly. Melissa Harris-Perry said she kept on her wall a picture of blacks toiling in the fields as a reminder of slavery. If I was a political writer or something similar, I might hang a communist party membership card on the wall, why not?

The article gives us no context regarding the picture other than it was hanging on 'a wall.' What wall? Where?

And no, the guy should not be fired. He hasn't done anything wrong.

In the end I probably wouldn't hang the KKK thing on my wall unless I could draw inspiration from it while writing or something like that. More than likely I would give it to a museum or some historical society.

When I was a tech I used to go into 15 homes a day and saw lots of strange stuff on walls. One time I went into the home of a burlesque dancer and she had topless pictures of herself (when she was younger) all over the place.

If being a moron was a fireable offense, 99% of the population would be unemployed. And I think I'm being a bit conservative with that estimate.

I mean, I wouldn't do it myself but I wouldn't fire him were the choice mine. Also, we don't know the whole story yet either as his wife mentioned there's more to the story and perhaps there IS a reasonable explanation. I think we need to wait a bit before judging.

The woman was in her 60s or 70s, but her pictures were taken when she was probably in her early 20s. She must have been proud of the way she looked because her pics were all over the place, and if I recall correctly, she was quite the man killer.

Back to the main event, do you think the outcome of the KKK story would be different if the cop was black? I'm sure it would be different because we have different rules for different people. Also, the government (police dept) can't punish people based on their 1A rights. This cop will either get his job back or settle for some cash.

There is no waiting when it comes to calling a white guy a racist, especially when he's a cop. There's a piece of history hanging on this guy's wall and he must be destroyed.

If they were examples of those historical documents why not?

Well not everyone owns their own museum.

Framing is a way of preserving. Would I hang it somewhere probably not but I would have no problem showing it to my friends or being in possession of it.

"The city announced on Aug. 8 that Anderson, who is white and had been with the department for more than two decades, had been placed on administrative leave after he was found “in possession of certain items associated with a white supremacist group.”"
