Today's shootings, on the Pensacola naval base, is the 19th shooting on a U.S.Military base in thee past ten years.Something which thoroughly dispels the right wing myth that shootings only occur in gun free zones??Shootings occur in every corner and locale in our entire nation, with hundreds of millions of weapons in the hands of the general public, no place is safe or out of bounds.

Except for base security, military bases ARE gun-free zones -- neither civilians nor ordinary members of the military are allowed to carry guns.

Firearms are strictly prohibited on military bases. Only a small select few are able to carry them. The rest are locked away.

It also dispels the very stupid left wing lie that only police and military should have guns.

The suspect in todays shooting is being described as a Saudi, here for some kind of military training.

There are neighborhoods in Chicago that have more than 19 shootings in a month. Not sure what sort of nonsense you are trying to spew here, but really you fail to take into account the number of people that have cycled through the military in those 10 years, the fact there are four distinct services, which you simply lump together, why is that?

Neither civilians nor ordinary members of the military are allowed to carry guns - only designated security personnel.
    Thus, a gun-free zone.

The myth is already disproved. In terms of why it matters in terms of military bases, it's because it goes to the idea the military is invincible. They're supposed to be the ones protecting civilians, but they can't even protect themselves. Makes it harder to establish legitimacy if the military can't even stop these.

Just like there are designated armed personnel called police within a half mile of every gun free school shooting zone.

Most bases are pretty much gun free zones. Many military police keep an empty magazine in their rifle. It's only recently that military members with a CHL are allowed to carry on base at the base commander's discretion. Have there been any shootings at these AF bases? I honestly don't know. I know that Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque NM lets their members carry while off duty.

A naval base is a gun free zone, except for special circumstances like military police, or at the base range. Rank and file military members are not allowed to be armed, except for those specialized circumstances. It's probably one of the more intensely gun free zones around. Please do basic research before spouting off things that are very incorrect.

I live in Pensacola, and work on a nearby base. The only armed people on NAS Pensacola are the police, and they primarily stand guard duty at the entrances. This is a Naval Air Station.

Yes, he was here for naval aviation training. There are a few hundred Saudis being trained at any one time here. (I have also met Germans and Italians who are here in Pensacola for training).

But they're allowed to leave the base where they can buy guns.

A military base is a gun free zone except for a very limited number of security police and other guards except as noted below.
You can also buy guns on many Air Force bases. However, you must leave the base immediately with that weapon or it must be registered immediately to be kept in married housing areas.. Registered guns are allowed in married housing areas on some Air Force bases. Generally, the gun cannot be taken to the operational part of the base. There are some differences depending on the base.

Interesting attempt to spin the latest terrorist attack on U.S. soil into a gun control ad. Fail.
