I just found this thread and I'm so sorry you guys have such a poor opinion about Australians. Yeah, we trash talk Americans but it's like a big brother little brother thing. For the most part, we love you guys. You're right, we are liberal in many ways, we have socialised health care and most of you don't like our gun control. I like those things but I also understand they work well in OUR context and the last thing people (who have probably never even never been to the USA) should be doing is lecturing in a deriding fashion. I don't like Trump the man and I doubt many here would choose him as a fishing buddy (he'd never ****) but the democrats at the moment are a bloody horror show and until they have some kind of a top down reformation or enlightenment, they don't deserve to win. Now back to the fires. The main cause of the fires was not arsonists, terrorists, global warming or land management issues. We've had a horrible protracted drought which lasted for many years and in many places it's been too dry and dangerous to even do hazard reductions burns. Even places which very recently had reduction burns had high intensity fires. The left side of politics in Australia has been disgusting during this crisis, even calling our Prime Minister an arsonist. The truth is this.
