Okay, I feel bad for the workers, my prayers for their swift recovery.

Hey!!!! What about the meat? I'm NOT a vegetarian

    Are we screwed?

Don't believe what they tell you. Workers tend to like making more money not going to work.

Was thinking of getting some rabbit hutches anyway. More fast-breeding organic meat than a family can eat.

My chest freezer is full of overstock frozen veggies. Im eating them as fast as I can to make more room for beef and bacon.

We've already discussed the possibility in my household. I live very remote within forest land and own quite a bit of land myself. No neighbors, and herds of deer pass through my property multiple times per day. Yes, if we had to, we'd take out deer for meat, regardless of season. No one would know.

    I don't believe them.

That's low and very cold. These are people who have been working all along. It sounds like you think they should continue to do so, risking their lives or health and that of their families just so the cheeseburgers and fried chicken keep on coming. Once coworkers start dropping from this virus, what would you do? Would you work without proper protection? Without distance between workers? Would you risk carrying this infection home with you?

The grocery store employees are able to maintain social distancing.

There are three groups where we're having severe spikes in infections and deaths: nursing homes, prisons, and meat packing plants.

Well after listening to a butcher shop owner, he laid it out pretty clearly. This podcast covers the pork situation as well as a little of the beef situation from a large butcher shop owner's view. Following that, they interview a hog farmer and he gives the statistics as to what is happening in the pork production arena.
Starting at 11 minutes in you will get an earful as to what is going on with the government basically paying workers more to stay at home and this is from a guy who is not a Trump supporter.
Regardless of your political position, it is very informative to listen to much of this podcast with respect to meat production.

Just a side note, I am a part time firearms instructor and we are closed. No big deal as I al retired anyway. One of my coworkers has a middle class income and has been furloughed from his job and he is currently receiving full unemployment benefits plus an additional $600/week from the government. Think he is anxious to return to work?

I don't know what the long term effect of this massive injection of fiat currency will have on the economy, but it's a sad time for America.

Dying is dying. It may be “small numbers” to you but you wouldn’t care if it were thousands
