The long and short of it is that Cuba either had to do without or go it alone for generations and they actually developed a better research capability than America for dealing with infections and diseases.

It is a closed society, on an island, and further note the the death rate in most African country's is lower than Cuba's. There are other factors than their health care system involved.

It's never talked about in the media, but Cuba has long had excellent medical care for its people. During the last year it has assisted many other countries.
