For the effects of slavery that have endured for over 157 years.

You do understand that "reparations" doesn't mean that they're going to hand over checks to all black people out there.

It just means they get the chance that they haven't had in 157 years to, for example, live in a nice neighborhood, with good schools and proper transportation. Preferably without the fear of getting shot every time a traffic officer stops them for speeding or running a red light or for... "driving while black". But the latter would just be an "added bonus"

Student loans are peanuts compared to the welfare the rich receive.

They can live in those neighborhoods right now if they can afford to. The Open Housing Act was passed in 1968.

The rich for the most part are job creators. What do student loans do but bankrupt students who stupidly choose majors that don't produce enough income to pay them off. The education debt trap is a creation of the liberal college banking-construction complex. The bait is offering to finance degrees with no future, and not eligible for bankruptcy. It's like borrowing from the mob!

And regarding plopping the nouveau riche, flush with a reparations check into a middle class neighborhood is only going to bankrupt them. They still have to get a job that pays the bills that they can get to. If they couldn't cut it in Compton, they sure as hell can't do it in Santa Clarita.

Lastly, descendants of immigrants after around 1880 immigrants have to get a tax credit for their share of reparations. White people pay double, and Trump supporters pay triple?

All social levels contribute to job creation But consumers are the main driver in our capitalist society.. A big chunk (the biggest chunk in a healthy society) of which are middle class people with an education. The healthier a middle class we have, the more our country prospers.

So you believe that society only needs professionals who make a lot of money. You don't believe we need teachers, or artists, or social workers, or lab technicians... or any of the professions that pay relatively low wages, but are necessary in a healthy society.

You comment comes across as a bit near-sighted. Many people who would thrive, even in high paying jobs, hesitate to study because they don't know if they will be able to afford the debt.

I think this part of your comment reflects more the "anti-education" campaign in which the right has decided to engage, rather than in the right of black people to receive the education that has been denied to them since the time of slavery, continuing in the Jim Crow era, and being perpetuated by our current systemic racism.

Ok. So it's clear you don't understand what "reparations" means.

Reparations doesn't mean that the government is going to write a check so they don't have to get a job. It means exactly the opposite. It means the government helps them GET a job, so they can break the poverty circle they have lived in because of our nation's past slavery practices. To get the job, reparations helps them receive better education. That they have access to obtaining a home. Not that they just give them a house. They have to pay for it, but under very favorable conditions. This so their children can grow up in a healthier environment than the one their parents grew up in.

It's things like these, not the nonsense you hear and read on wingnut media, that "reparations" means.

Reparations means that black people who live in poverty because they didn't receive proper education that would allow them to get decent jobs, and because their parents lived in poverty because they didn't receive proper education that would allow them to get decent jobs, because their parents... and on and on goes the circle. Reparations breaks this cycle, which benefits them, and benefits the country by making a stronger middle class.

Again: it does NOT mean sending them a check every month so they don't have to get a job, like your wingnut media is telling you. You have much to un-learn.

Cancelling a federally backed loan doubles the welfare the rich receive...

That's right! Exactly the reason why we need to eliminate welfare for the rich.

So you plan to eliminate welfare to the rich by doubling some elements of welfare to the rich?

    Good luck with that

Without going into a bubbling rage over it, I simply and completely reject the idea that there's been 157 years during which Blacks have endured the "effects of slavery".

Using dubious logic, I could as easily demonstrate that many of the Southern States that made up the Confederacy suffered significantly during the aftermath of the Civil War, from the Northern-imposed "Reconstruction Period" all the way up to World War II.

Immediately after World War II, things began to take a very positive, improving turn for everyone in the United States, including Blacks. In 1948 the Armed Forces were completely desegregated (it had actually begun in 1943). Blacks began their entry into Major League Baseball in 1947. On the all-important economic front, the AFL (American Federal of Labor), and very powerful, nationwide labor union, had become fully desegregated during the 1930's. And, all this progress was crowned by adoption of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Now, by anybody's count, for more than the last fifty-five years, all American citizens have been fully equal in every respect before the law in the United States.

The only exceptions have been special accommodations that have given Blacks special advantages over others, such as "Affirmative Action" (reverse-discrimination), various hiring preferences on the basis of race, and special government set-aside contracts worth many millions of dollars on which only minority-owned businesses can even submit a bid.

I could go on, but suffice to say that there is no (NO) justification whatsoever for the United States to pay "reparations" to any Black citizen because of slavery. All the slaves and slave-owners are LONG gone....

Hint: the last slave died in the United States in 1937: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smar...-woman-survive-african-slave-trade-180971879/

Of course not. It's been way more than that.

Answer me this: why do you think there are disproportionately more black people in prison, statistically less of them with a college degree, there are more under the poverty line, they have a shorter life expectancy, they earn less on average, are less likely to own a home,... and on and on.

Why is it? Or do you believe that the above is not true?

Assuming that enacting laws that say that black people have equal rights is all that is needed for them to actually have equal rights is like assuming that enacting a law that says it's illegal to steal ends robberies.

All true, but I'm also against anything entitled "reparations for slavery"... I'd be for some Black business tax advantages or certainly some review and release of non-violent Black criminals (drug usage for sure), but I cannot support something called reparations.

If they're going to attempt it, they're going to have to develop a better name and way to try and level the playing field than straight cash for some unknown number of people...

The reason you are dodging my simple question is that you know I can easily make my case with room to spare.

More than 50% of my hard earned money goes to the government.

So what percent are we up to?

Are you against providing scholarships to underprivileged black people, home loans under conditions they can afford,, job assistance, nutrition assistance for their children as well as access to better Pre-K to 12 education?

The right wing has great ability to disparage good ideas, not by showing that there is anything wrong with them, but by demonizing the name. It doesn't matter what you call it, the right will demonize the name. I think it's better to use the energy to explain to people what "reparations" means than to keep changing the name again and again. If they keep changing it, in the end nobody will know what we're talking about.

I have not dodged anything. I keep pointing out that your claim that you pay 50% or more in taxes is nonsense. Everything you've provided so far, confirms that.

All the rich who receive tax-payer funded welfare.

Is there a case where you think there should be an exception? Let's hear it! I can't think of any right now, but I can listen to your arguments with an open mind.
