Taiwan is a democracy. So the comparisons to Vietnam and elsewhere are meaningless.

Put it this way. If America was closely allied to Britain there would have been no world wars.
Germany fighting England would be fighting America too, and the cost-benefits wouldn't add
up. As it was America HAD TO FIGHT IN THE END. Why? Because the Nazis and the
Communists would have seen America as the 'last enemy' in a similar way to how Japan saw
America. As long as America is free she presents a potential threat to these nations. And if
Germany or USSR won their wars they would be more powerful than America. And without
any threat there's the temptation for war of occupation, annihilation or ideological conversion.

So, not engaging the world increases violence. And the violence would have a good chance
of visiting you with more appropriate conditions.

And increased debt by 8 trillion in 4 years.

We offer Taiwan our thoughts and prayers, which is our standard solution to many issues.

South Vietnam was a democracy too, and we sacrificed 50 000+ lives to defend it.

    Not again!

Sth Viet wasn't a democracy, but it could have been by today.
Back in the early '70's some thought of Sth Viet being like
Sth Korea, and Nth Viet like Nth Korea. Only after 1975 the
south became more like Nth Korea.
    Sad.
And the domino effect saw the whole Indo China falling to
    Communism within months.
Fortunately General Giap wasn't able to 'set fire to all Asia'
as most other nations had time to get their systems in order,
    particularly Thailand.

I suppose Ngo Dinh Diem was not exactly elected president (Nguyen Van Thieu was elected), but Vietnam still serves as a lesson which we should NOT repeat.

Let em have it. I see no reason to shed one ounce of American Blood for Taiwan, particularly since Japan ceded it to China after WWII.

What is the big deal about "shedding American blood for Taiwan"?

With all due respect that's bull. South Vietnam was never much like South Korea but very little like North Korea either. Right now it's still somewhat more socialist than the Scandinavians but at present, it's certainly not an oppressive communist tyranny by any means. It has a unique natural beauty and in actual fact, it's one of Southeast Asia's major tourist destinations; hosting many tourists who served there as soldiers in the 1960's every year.

Well if we have birthed a population that is so afraid of weather they think they can spend trillions changing it, they will certainly blind to the real threat of economic exsanguination by China.

if you want to do it, go for and join taiwan military, not everyone want to die 10,000 miles from their homeland. most american probably couldn't find taiwan on a map. beside if china truly invade taiwan economic sanction/blockade is prefer method anyway. at least no bloodshed

Economic sanctions and blockades are often considered acts of war in and of themselves. Just ask the Japanese prior to Pearl Harbor.

What is the big deal about being able to find a place on a map anyway?

if china invade taiwan, rather than fight over there, its better to use economic sanctions & blockade. if you want fight for taiwan go join their army. if ppl can't even find it on the map, do you expect them to die on a far away land they dont know about. china is not iraq, or have you forgot korea war, when china was weak and no nuke.

Why would Taiwan want a 53 year old disabled man?

And you do know that a "blockade" is in itself an act of war don't you?

No not a flaw of capitalism, a flaw of globalism.... remember globalism... the ability for corporations to export jobs so they can hire cheap labour and vastly increase your profits.

    Ok you say an exaggeration, answer me this;

Where are your American jobs? in China
    Where is your manufacturing....in China
Where is your research and development....in China
    Where is your science....in China
Where is your innovation and patents being copied.... in China
Where is your dollar denominated debt.... in China

You funded the Chinese military that small island of Taiwan now have to deal with, who are wiping out the world's fish supply.... all the while you complain about other countries and their emissions......then go....nah...exaggeration

I believe Trump had a much better clue than Biden on dealing with the situation. Biden's solution to the fall of the American Empire is to burn the whole planet down. Stirring devisions and fuelling wars.

Taiwan throughout its history has rarely been part of mainland China.

and their people do not want to be.

What matters is the will of the people living in Taiwan, not the will of China. The people of Taiwan do not want to be part of China, at least not like the rest of China is. Nobody alive there has ever been anything but Taiwanese in their minds. Forcing them to be like the rest of China is wrong.

well most taiwness prefer status quo, and dont want die or become homelss in a war. Neither do they want to fully become part of china. however, as china economy grow, more taiwness moving to china for jobs, thus mainland have influence over them, this become increasing trend. there are even small pro-unification party in taiwan.
