They certainly will need all that military weaponry and armor if they keep making traffic stops.

Unarmed police would seldom with no power to make arrests would seldom be targets for violence so long as they do not look at all like armed police.

I would suggest lots of cameras on their hats and cow-print uniforms.

The armed police are going to be a thing of the past very soon if they do not reduce their role in the criminal justice system very fast.

An armed public needs very few armed police.

This woman, female, she, cop had 27 years of service and experience. And while the black cop is wrestling with the suspect, she accidentally pulls her gun out of her dominant side, and not the weak side where the taser is? Nuh...uh. She was not even threatened. Not buying it, after 27 years as a cop. She deserves 2nd degree manslaughter. Unbelievable.

He was inebriated, crawling on his hands and knees as instructed, sobbing in fear, responding with yes sir and no sir, and when his pants started to fall off because of crawling as he was told, he reached back with one hand to pull up his pants and they shot him to death. It is with depraved indifference, malice and pure cruelty for you to call him an idiot and suggest that pulling up ones pants is an act of aggression worthy of death.

 

You understand he didn't ACTUALLY have a concealed weapon though, right? He was unarmed, in reality. I understand the cops may have perceived a threat, but they were mistaken. You get that, right? Shaver was drunk in his hotel room, and the cops came to him, called him out, and then shot him for the equivalent of failing a field sobriety test.

 

I think you're blaming racism here for something that was largely self-inflicted.

Nothing makes me feel better than entering a small building with one or two armed LEO's inside. Except maybe Church. Going to church is kinda like that...the good feeling. Thing is, situations requiring armed officers can happen anywhere at any time. Consequently, all officers need to be fully armed and ready for anything, one would think. One bullet Barney ain't gonna cut it, cause this ain't Mayberry.

 

If I was in that guy's position I'd have just stopped crawling forward despite the police commands (making sure my hands were still visible and non-threatening). Maybe I'd even feign unconsciousness.

Sometimes you need to think for yourself in these situations. Like if you are holding a phone and police are screaming at you to "drop the gun", drop the phone. You can sue the city in small claims court for any damage to the phone.

 

No, she deserves the minimum possible sentence, she made an honest mistake during a chaotic struggle.

Yes but lacking x-ray vision the police couldn't know that. Honest mistake, they did nothing wrong.

She was trained extensively for +25 years. Yet still failed to meet basic standards with deadly consequences.
She must be sentences harshly in an attempt to restore some kind of faith towards the community.
