Every night, right before radical Democrats drift off to sleep, they meditate on their little mantra, "Never let a crisis go to waste!"

Damn! right, in this Crazy Defund the Police world where Democrats release violent offenders in a Revolving Door justice system, I SURE! as hell am not relinquishing my Guns anytime soon. When Democrats convince me that they take Crime serious and sentence these Criminals to life in Prison with no chance of Parole for carrying an illegal Gun and I don't have to worry about being force to throw rocks at some Creep breaking into my House with a Glock, I'm keeping my Arsenal plain and simple. I'm pretty sure I'll have Guns forever, because I know Liberals are not capable of such Draconian punishment for Gun Toting Thugs.

That's the million dollar question. Maybe someone should ask the thought police this question. Very few mental health issues involve violent behavior.

Thank you, I accept your figures. Now let’s compare them with the rates of gun violence in those countries. For example, the US is only a few points difference away from Canada and Sweden in mental illness rates. How do their gun violence rates compare? So far this year, Canada has recorded 2.05 gun deaths per 100,000 population. Sweden has 1.6.

The US has 12.2. It’s not the mental illness that’s causing it.....

So since you posted: “this is a mental health issue”, then obviously it doesn’t unless your ok with people getting killed ?

A difference of 10 per 100,000 doesn't even come close to taking away basic and extremely important rights. I would much rather live in a nation where the people have the power to keep the government in check with hard power than a country that is infinitesimally safer but does not have the hard power to keep their government in check or defend their homes from those criminals who don't give a damn that the law says they cannot have guns. Or even if the criminal doesn't have a gun but has a knife or a pipe, I'd rather just shoot them than have to go hand to hand with knives. I don't see the point in fighting fair when my family's safety is at risk. I've lived in the US my entire life except while deployed, and have only been shot at while overseas. Going 40 years without being shot at once in this supposedly ultra violent country tells me that 10 in 100,000 statistic doesn't mean a thing, and is certainly not enough of an excuse to disarm law abiding Americans.

That post looks like it was spoken by that frightened, confused man in your avatar....

“Against tyranny”...?? The tyranny of what? Your government? You think those camo-wearing boys and girls that hide out in the woods, playing soldiers with their dangerous toys, are going to be able to take on the might of the US military? Good luck with that.....

Your best defence against government ‘tyranny’ is the ballot box.....what a shame so few of you use it....

SO are you saying we should just do nothing....or should we do more to determine who can have a gun ?

Put a number on it then. What rate of gun death would convince you that stiffer controls are necessary? I think I know the answer to that one....

And “keep the government in check”...?? Please.........

Demographics are a major factor. A factor off limits for politically correct liberal discussion.

If we want to make comparisons, how come the there is so much violence in Mexico, what with their extreme gun control laws.

My answer is going to be obvious, isn’t it? I think it’s the availability of firearms, particularly the high powered, military style weapons.

Look, I can only make a comparison with my own country here in Australia. We are similar to the US in many regards. Our histories are similar, our ethnic origins are similar, we also began as a British colony and experienced a ‘frontier’ lifestyle in the early years of white settlement. We have also transformed into a largely urban population as we have modernised.

And we too used to have something of a ‘gun problem’. Mass shootings were becoming more common here, particularly in the latter half of the last century. The culmination of this pattern was the Pt Arthur massacre in Tasmania, in which 35 people were shot dead and another 28 wounded by a lone gunman armed with military style automatic rifles. The response from our conservative Prime Minister was to take action similar to New Zealand’s in the last 12 months....a ban on those types of weapons, a ‘gun buy-back’ scheme and much tighter controls over who might own weapons and how they must be stored.

The effect has been quite noticeable. Don’t get me wrong, people still get shot in this country, but it is much, much less frequent and is often turf wars between drug gangs, not involving the general public, or are suicides.

Make of it what you will...

    20,000,000 AR15s in the US
Over the last 40 years, 16 of them have been used to kill 266 people in mass shootings.
That's a yearly average of 0.4 rifles used to kill 6.65 people in mass shootings.
    Compared to 20,000,000 rifles.
Your answer has no demonstrable basis in fact.

Your numbers prove my point. 20 million....and that’s only ONE type of rifle. Tell me that the US isn’t one of the easiest countries in the world to get your hands on a firearm...

Of course it is, because we have the right to own firearms granted by the Constitution. Other countries don't have that...

Less than 1% of all gun crimes are committed with an "assault rifle" style weapon. The vast majority of gun crimes are committed with handguns...

I can tell you North Korea is one of the hardest countries in the world to get your hands on a firearm.

That former NFL player that killed 6 or so people last week used a handgun. But do you hear Democrats screaming to ban handguns? Nope, they pretty much ignored it and swept it under the rug and blamed it on head trauma from football....

If people became more violent, what makes you think I would want to disarm? If everyone went psychotic, I would want to be more armed, not less. So, to answer your question, there is no number that would convince me. If overall murder by any means goes to zero, then maybe you might have an argument that they wouldn't be needed.

And yes, keeping the government in check is the #1 most important reason to own firearms. Especially in this day and age.

But yet the want to ban AR-15's, Seems to me Democrats are more worried about the Guns that would be most effective against a Tyrannical Government run amok in the hands of Civilians to fight back than the Hand Guns, which cause the MAJORITY of Gun Deaths in America.
