On Monday, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin stunned Democrats by announcing that he will not support the new multi-trillion dollar spending bill unless more clarity is given. Manchin wants to know the lasting effects that the bill will have on the nations debt, which other Democrats simply don’t care about.

“I for one won’t support a multi-trillion dollars bill without greater clarity, about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects of inflation and debt that have on our economy and existing government programs,” Manchin said at a press conference.

“For example, how can I in good conscience vote for a bill that proposes massive expansion to social programs when vital programs like Social Security and Medicare face insolvency and benefits could start being reduced as soon as 2026 and Medicare in 2033, and Social Security. How does that make sense? I don’t think it does.

This is a news report about the content of what Sen. Manchin said today regarding reconciliation. He is exactly right. It is my hope that he holds to that position and doesn’t cave to the progressives.

The Democrats won't release a clear, concise, complete list of what all is in the bill, because they don't want you to know. If they did list everything, then no one but the most hardcore Marxists would vote for it...

This is just another manifestation of the white conservative minority rule. Not only do Dems need 40 million more votes than Republicans to reach parity in the Senate, but now one of their own, predictably from a hick state, like WV, holds legislation hostage. The Senate is clearly broken. It's become a institution to obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, by the minority. Who give a cra& about the will of the people.

That's not what Manchin said, but it doesn't matter.

At this point, it is almost impossible for this plan to fail in the Senate.

You'll have to find another bone to pick.

And by the "will of the people", you of course mean the will of a dozen billionaires. What is not in this Blackrock wet dream is a single frigging dime for nuclear (by far and away the most reliable option for energy security).

The Democrats will get this to pass, because this will go a long ways towards increasing the wealth and power of the few people controlling the Democrat party. They are putting on a show to pretend that it isn't a forgone conclusion. At this point, it is readily apparent that the complete erasure of the middle class is the end goal of the Democrat party and their elite puppeteers. Given the monumental impoverishment they were able to accomplish in the past 10 months (without affecting the stock market), I have every bit of faith that they will accomplish their goal. You should too.

West Virginia is a little bit of an unusual area and creates a problem for the rest of the Democratic Party.
It's very much a poorer "unsophisticated" conservative working class demographic, but has traditionally leaned Democrat, in large part because of the poverty and their financial circumstances, and because they never really left the Democratic Party from older times when the Democratic Party used to control the South (West Virginia is part of "the South" culturally)

Being from a poorer area where people traditionally had to look after themselves, this politician is going to be more careful with money.
He probably also sees through the smokescreen and knows the majority of this money in the bill is not really going to go towards helping people but instead will be going to a wish list of progressive pet project initiatives and special faction pork barrel spending.

the senate is working exactly as it should. It’s the calming body where things are more carefully considered. A place where compromise to reach goals is the ideal. It’s not a party line place where in a 50/50 division the Vice President crams down 51-50 everything they want. If the democrats can’t compromise on their objectives enough to get 10 of 50 Republicans to support it, it doesn’t need to pass.

    After several private talks with Manchin Biden was sure he won his vote. It seems Biden has a difficult time reading people. I don't see how he could have misread Manchin who once again has made it clear he will not support Biden's reconciliation bill. Even fellow Democrats thought Biden had won Manchin over. From the article;

When Joe Manchin stepped to the podium in the US Capitol on Monday afternoon, the hope among Democrats was that he was going to announce that he supported the $1.75 trillion social safety net bill -- a moment that would virtually ensure passage of the bulk of President Joe Biden's first-term domestic agenda.

After all, why else would Manchin call a news conference and tell reporters that he was going to "clear up a lot of things"?
Well, not that, as it turns out.

What the West Virginia Democrat announced was that liberals' attempts to secure his vote for the safety net bill in exchange for their backing of the $1.2 trillion "hard" infrastructure bill aren't working -- and won't work.
"It is time to vote on the (bipartisan infrastructure) bill, up or down," said Manchin. "Holding this bill hostage is not going to work in getting my support
    for the reconciliation bill."

No, not stunning, but it just continues to make the democrats look like dopes
They better figure out the debt thing in early December separate from this disaster, or 2022 is going to get even uglier for them

I can't vote on this poll because I have no idea why Manchin is a Democrat let alone what he will do. I do like what he has done so far. I would like to say he would go for the Bi-Partisan portion separate from the American Marxist give away!

They guy is asking that you actually tell him what's in the bill before he will vote for it?

What is your problem with that?

This is a position EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF CONGRESS should not only take, but demand.

They have been working on this bill for months. Biden visited with him over the weekend. Do you REALLY think he doesn't know what is in the bill? At this point, he is just obstructing.

LoL, have you been reading The Squat's Twitter feed? In a move so obvious a 3 year old could have seen it coming, the radical far-left progressive babies in Congress and media have dropped the needle on the only record in their collection: crying racism.

This abomination of an 'infrastructure' bill, which has in fact practically nothing to do with infrastructure, will only serve as another massive print-n-spend initiative will only further hasten our march into a state of hyper-inflation. Inflation that is most absolutely crippling the less wealthy, which the left is always telling us basically means all minorities. But that's not 'racist', no no, imposing one economically crippling policy after another so that our dollars can only go ~60% as far as they did a year ago knowing full well tens of millions of minorities will be hurt isn't racist - not one bit. You see, according to the far-left, the racist move is the one that stops this inflation from getting even worse.

Of course we sane folk know this isn't racist at all. We know these far-left parasites in Congress and in the various lobbyists are just beyond butthurt because they're thought they were going to cash in on the theft of $4 (even though it was more like 5.8-6) TRILLION dollars worth of our money that would be funneled through one leftist organization after another where it would be free from oversight and ripe for pilfering just as is always done with the redistribution of wealth.

Manchin is American hero, and if he manages to single-handedly hold back the flood of cancerous progressivism through blocking this spending monstrosity, and the various other radical leftist initiatives, then I say we should carve his face into Mt Rushmore because he will have done more for America than anyone in generations.

Biden turned Manchin and Sinema into the bad guys and all it did was steel their resolve.

Dems could learn from this, but they won't.

A good president is a unifier who is able to lead and implement his agenda.

Its painfully obvious Biden is not a good leader.
