Joe Biden Suggests to Black Students He Was Arrested During Civil Rights Struggle

President Joe Biden told an audience of black students on the grounds of Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University on Tuesday that he was arrested during the civil rights struggle, though there is no evidence that such an arrest ever happened.

...Biden has made similar claims before, most of which were later proved false. In 2020, he had to walk back a false claim that he was arrested in South Africa while trying to see jailed leader (and later president) Nelson Mandela.

Biden appears to be attempting to connect with a crowd of black College students.

As he's a known plagerist and has been caught in multiple lies, I believe his claim is unlikely.

He also seems to hint that this happened in the 1950s or 1960s. That's a pretty big window.

It’s funny how a guy who claims to have been a civil rights activist in the 60’s didn’t want his kids growing up in a racial jungle in the 70s.

According to a Washington Post tally, Biden had told the story publicly at least three times.

When asked about it during an interview with CNN, Biden conceded that he was not arrested, saying, “I wasn’t arrested, I was stopped. I was not able to move where I wanted to go.”

When an officer prolongs a detention beyond what is brief and cursory and broadens it, then the detention may turn into a de facto arrest—that is, an actual but not official arrest.
If a reasonable person in the detainee's position would have considered the police's behavior to constitute the kind of restraint that's typical of formal arrest, then an arrest has occurred.

Since Presidents now are subject to their lives being put through a sieve, it is Biden's responsibility to prove he was arrested. Unless there are two sets of rules regarding proof of statements depending on one's political position, Biden will be held to the same rules Trump was.
