Ukraine, despite being under heavy bombardment by Russia now for more than three weeks, has begun to shift the battlefield momentum in some areas to reclaim ground from invading forces, a Pentagon spokesman said Tuesday.

"They are going after Russians and pushing them out of places where the Russians have been in the past," he said, particularly in Mykolaiv, in the south. "We have seen this now increase over the last few days."

Kirby said he could not confirm reports from Ukrainian officials that they had retaken at least one town and expect to take more in coming days.

But it would be "consistent with the kind of fighting and the kinds of capabilities we have seen the Ukrainians use," he said.

As for the Russians, he echoed Western analysts who have said the invading forces have become bogged down.

"They are running out of fuel. They're running out of food. integrating their operations in a joint manner the way you would think a modern military would," Kirby said.

This is the turning point of this war.

The Ukrainian Army had launched a counter-offensive two days ago, but there has been no news since.

The less experienced soldiers and conscripts are in the north of the country and are unable to advance towards Kiev.

If the elite Russian army is routed in the south, Putin will not be able to hide this defeat and it will be the beginning of the end of his regime.

And I would not be surprised if the encirclement of Mariupol is broken within 2-3 days.

I don’t think Putin will go down without also taking down as much as he can. He needs a way to save face and I’m surprised Biden hasn’t offered him hundreds of billions of dollars in America taxpayer subsidies, loans, aid, and other stuff to end the war and would allow Putin to say he won. Hey, I’m glad Biden didn’t do that, but I’m sure it entered his mind.

In the end I doubt Putin goes down easy, those aren’t his sons who are being killed out there.

    Lol it's all over.

Putin got two major regions of Ukraine which he will use as a buffer and he will expell non Russians.

Only wild card is if Zelenski will agree not to join NATO etc and if western nations contribute troops, aircraft etc to the conflict.

I had to check that quote from Kirby.... you left out the key word.... it didn't make any sense the way you included it

    SNIP
"They are running out of fuel. They're running out of food. They are not integrating their operations in a joint manner the way you would think a modern military would," Kirby said.
    ENDSNIP

The whole world, less Russia, Belarus, and much of the GOP, are rooting for Ukraine..... Even a stalemate is generally good for Ukraine. If they can regain previously lost territory, it's fantastic news...

You should read Putin's trapped rat story he told often since becoming president in 1999. I have no doubt he will use whatever is in his arsenal to win his war on Ukraine.

You underestimate the power of a psychopath with nuclear weapons. Putin was Yeltsin's hand picked payback to America.

And the Ukraine's aren't going to use guerrilla warfare to try and get this back? Doubtful.

It depends what you call 'over'

Ark, I am just amazed at the way Zelensky and his people have joined together in defense of their country while remaining empathetic toward the enemy that came to destroy them.

    Image7.jpg

"Addressing Russian conscripts and officers, Mr. Zelensky asked them “why should you die?”

“What for?” Mr. Zelensky said. “I know that you want to survive. We hear your conversations in the intercepts. We hear what you really think about this senseless war, about this disgrace and about your state.”"

We will all go down if we can't stop the partisan hatred and blame game. Our country is in a very precarious state and we're the only ones that can fix that.

Zelensky is what a real leader looks like and I hope that somebody we, as US Americans, can get back to where our leaders are truly talented, qualified and sincere in their determination to move our country forward in unity.

He knows the power of nukes.

He's not irrational in that way.

A NATO escalation would mean nukes on his doorstep. He does not want that.

The Ukrainians in the east are being relocated. A long term low level asymmetric conflict won't phase Putin.

As for those I'm the West, escalation would also come from Putin.

How are you sure it entered his mind when he's done the opposite of what you say?

Can you prove the GOP is rooting for Russia?

We did overwhelmingly back a bill to give Ukraine alot of aid and I have seen zero evidence to support your claim.

Typical of someone from the left to try and make the right out as the bad guys in a war between Russia and Ukraine. This has nothing to do with us and here we stand with Ukraine. All of us. Democrats and Republicans.

Sad you would use a heart breaking war to take a shot at Republicans.

Tucker Carlson was sympathetic to Putin...and Russia TV even aired his segment to promote their propaganda. Tucker only changed his tune when he found out his Kremlin check would bounce with all these sanctions.

That's pretty nutty stuff. It appears that because you side with Ukraine, you are supportive of their nazi Azov Battalion. How long have you been a closet nazi and how many closet nazi supporters has Hunter Biden been gathering since he's back from Ukraine?

See how easy that is to make stuff up?

The entire party? No, but plenty of folks like Tucker and Roger Stone have said they’re rooting for Russia.

Do you think that will change anything? Putin will say that’s all he wants so he’ll pull his troops out?

Just give a couple of days. They will claim it never happened like they are pretending Trump didn't use the words "savvy" or "genius" about his Bro-man Crush.

    It's one thing he wants.

Also the two regions of East Ukraine he controls currently.

Except of course people who support Ukraine haven't stated they support Nazis, and the batallion only reflects a small portion of the population.

Tucker in 2019 said he's openly rooting for Russia against Ukraine.

You are confusing stating the truth with siding with Russia.. confusing the Truth with propaganda.

It feels like a mash-up of The Twilight Zone and Punk'd.

Anyone with experience with criminals is aware that many of them like the "thrill" of hiding in plain sight. They leave little clues here and there. I think that's what Trump is doing. He loves the fact that he can say anything, however crazy, paranoid, blatantly false and not only do his targets accept it, not only do they repeat it, they viciously attack anybody and everybody that won't be part of their alternate "reality". It will never come out but I would bet that Tucker is on the Orange Stain's payroll somewhere in his crooked books.

They whine and complain about "cancel culture" when they are the ones that invented that craziness. I guess it doesn't matter unless they are the ones marginalized and silenced. I'm glad I don't watch television. I'm disgusted just reading the comments from those of you that do. Beyond pathetic.
