What do you mean by that? What's the support system, and lower compared to what?

Ukraine is by no definition of a nation
It was an administrative area of Russia aka Rus
longer than Texas, California, etc. is :flagus:

    Mixing Russian Orthodox and newbies
Lithuanian + Polish Roman Catholics as
    western borders expanded Ukraine gained
diversity with old world bigotry. Ask the Jews!

    Ukraine is "South Russia" with
    respect to the Kiev Rus.

    Natalia Poklonskaya
    for Empress of "Ukraine"

Study up how as a senior prosecutor against the mob in Kiev
she was advised to transfer from Kiev to the hinterlands of Crimea.
Ooops she made major busts there including her boss.

Price of equipment really the cost of almost everything is higher. The US Army has a huge logistical 'tail'. On the other hand they seldom run out of anything except in odd circumstance and even then there are dedicated supply vehicles that can bring you ammo almost at a moments notice.

By the mid point of the Italian campaign in WWII German snipers learned that the US believed firmly in an asymetric response to sniper attacks. The least you got in response was the company's inherent 60mm mortar team dumping a couple of dozen rounds in your vicinity. It also wasn't uncommon for a particularly irritated company commander to call in a battery of 105 mm artillery support.

Currently Russia is still calling this a "special military operation", telling their people everything is going according to plan, etc. As long as they continue to do that, it will be difficult to at the same time justify sending further conscripts, or engaging in a significant mobilization. Also, Russia is a very large country. Other than damaging resupply areas / routes in the direct vicinity of the war, it would be impossible to deal significant damage to their industrial capacity to wage war.

Ukraine's first priority is defending its territory and citizens. Attacking Russia proper would give Russia a CB for mass mobilization. But absent that, if they continue to pretend as if all is going well, this favors Ukraine long term. Russia cannot harm Ukraine's supply lines (the west) and will meanwhile be at a numbers disadvantage fighting a whole motivated and mobilized country without doing the same themselves. One has to wonder what exactly the messaging will look like on Russian state media if they are still fighting Ukraine after 6 months.

Would also recommend this guy's videos for analysis on the war:
