Large cities in Texas is getting bluer. Just like large cities everywhere. Rural areas (most of the Texas and the US) are still very red.

And the border counties are shifting towards red (gee I wonder why). Clinton won every single border county in 2016. Two flipped to trump in 2020 and the others, even though biden won, it was with a lower percentage of the vote than clinton did. Literally every single border county shifted at somewhat to the right from 2016 to 2020.

The disastrous border situation is what could keep texas red. People not living in a border state have no idea.

now we're concerned about a nuclear war beginning any day now. Life was so much better 2 years ago. We could afford to live, now many are hopeless and hungry.

You really damage your credibility by falsely slandering the Court's decision.
It's been almost a decade. If this is that important, why hasn't Congress updated the now 1/2 century old coverage formula? Dems have the majority in both Houses, have they done a damn thing besides bitch and point fingers?

I guess Congress is busy with "more important" things?

Because they don't have a majority where race is concerned..

Btw, the day after the Supreme Court gutted the VRA, the largest, most comprehensive Jim Crow bill in the history of the country was passed in NC.

    The judges knew better.

The Federalist Society judges are intensely political, it's why they use the shadow docket to do sleazy things they don't want to put their name on.

I think that Abbott's pathetic political posturing with the National Guard, free rides for immigrants and the miles long border back up of trucks is a wake up call for thinking Republicans. For those who fall for the show, they'll remain loyal.

More fake news. If the issue still persists, Congress is perfectly free to update the half century old information, which they haven't bothered to do, in a decade. Why is it that the Democrats in Congress cannot be bothered to do this basic work if this is the great issue that you claim? Have you written your representatives over this and told them to update the maps that are necessary for current enforcement of VRA. The Dem Congress managed to fund trans training in Pakistan but couldn't be bothered with this? How do you explain that?

Sure, all I have to do is copy how you spelled it.

I see no evidence that the House has updated the maps. Why is that? They did manage to pass funding for transexuals in Pakistan, but this burning issue of injustice, not damn thing in a decade? Have you written your congressperson about this?

They don't do maps. They could do voting legislation, but they don't have the votes, under the current rules.

My Congressperson is Sue Collins, don't get me started about her.

Harder on America because of the insane shutdowns. We murdered out economy to "save lives" and still managed to have one of the worst Covid death rates in the entire world.

Compare America to Japan who had no shutdowns and nowhere near the death rate. What is terrifying for America is that we are nowhere near peak inflation and the insane Biden administration is still attempting to pump more funny money into the economy.

Any true liberal is rethinking being a democrat if they have not left already. Maher, Rogan and Jimmy Dore are examples. Any real liberal would be appalled by the democrat party today. I'm a real liberal in many ways and voted straight republican in the last lection.

She's your senator. You also have representative in Congress. If they don't "do maps" it's by choice, the original data of what areas were engaged in systematic suppression, and so needed supervision, were drawn by Congress, a half century ago. All the Court did was require current maps, they did not "gut the VRA" as you claimed. The VRA is still there, still just as capable of ensuring voting rights, but not with 50 year old data.

And even legislation. The original VRA was only for five years, congress extended it several times, but never updated the data. According to the old data, Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Virginia, and other states all had the rights burdened that other states, counties and townships exercised, unburdened, based on what the situation was a half century ago. The Court, quite correctly in my view, simply said that if you are going to continue to burden their right to a greater extent than their neighbors, that you need to do so on the basis of updated data.

How can this be the burning issue that you indicate, and also not important enough for Congress to update the data if deep injustice is continuing to occur?

While they once again failed to update these maps, Pelosi and company did manage to fund the following in the bill that passed the House just last month:
    • $200,000,000 for the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund.
    • $50,000,000 for the Women’s International Leadership Fund.

And the list goes on and on and on and on.

I don't know if you are in CD1 or 2 but, I think it's very important that they hear from us. I write my representative all the time, by email, he's only answered once, but, when something bothers me, I do my part by putting my thoughts down on paper in a reasonable manner and sending them to him.

It's clear to me that you and I see many things differently, but, I still think that if your rep is hearing from you that there is at least a chance that it improves their performance.

This thread is not aging well as more and more Hispanics, Blacks, and even Younger voters are turning away from the Democratic Party.

AOC is wrong again. If anything, Texas is trending redder.
Hispanic Women Powering GOP Gains in South Texas February 07, 2022

In places where Donald Trump made some of his biggest inroads with Hispanic voters, women are playing a key role in the Republican Party's growth....

Why? Democrats are consistently disenfranchising the minority voters of Texas, namely hispanics. The calculus doesn't work without their active involvement and as we are seeing now, hispanics aren't going to be democrats much longer. TX can't import that many Californians to over come this. Sorry.

They are only disenfranchising anybody until the day a Republican appears on the same ballot...

I'd have to believe that's a typo, although I cannot be sure.... Was Stone trying to call DeSantis a "frat boy"?? That's the usual disdain for somebody who went to better schools that he did...

The irony of Stone using the term "fat boy" in a text also referencing T**** is pretty obvious....

I imaging you're furious as the NY Gerrymander attempt, so obscene, that multiple courts have rejected it.

NY Court of Appeals rejects redistricting maps 'drawn with an unconstitutional partisan intent'

"The NY Times calls it a “stinging defeat” for New York Democrats who gerrymandered the state by explicitly disregarding a law passed to" prevent such behavior.

    Lawless.

    Court Disgusted:
"Court’s Chief Justice spelled out that this was clearly" partisanship run amok.
    The Dirty Bastards.

"the State respondents urge that the 2022 congressional and senate elections be conducted using the unconstitutional maps." Court said No. They were too violative to conduct a lawful election with. "We reject this invitation to subject the People of this state to an election conducted pursuant to an unconstitutional reapportionment…"

"The decision has been taken out of the hands of partisan Democrats who created unconstitutional maps and will now be given over to a special master. The result will likely be more competitive districts and that’s obviously bad news for House Democrats." Dems were counting on stealing three unconstitutional seats with this corrupt process.
