    As someone who loves to talk about oppression and privilege she sure does flex her privilege when she gets arrested by writing Biden letters and getting wore out to the press. When you go to another country you have to follow their laws. If Russia is mistreating her we should get involved. If they're treating her fairly it is what it is. You have to be next level stupid to try to smuggle any amount of drugs through Russia.

    Griner was so eager to demean our flag and our police, then she didn't follow the rules in Russia and finds out that Russian police aren't American police and she's got the sads?

    Doesn't seem like she has any case to successfully defend herself. There doesn't seem to be any doubt that she violated the law.

    Late to the party, apologies if someone else has beat me to the observation: Griner made a point of being absent during the anthem at her WNBA games, and whined that the anthem AND the flag should be excluded from all WNBA venues. For her to cite the 4th and her alleged appreciation for American freedom in her letter to Brandon would be laughable, were it not so asinine. She's a card carrying member of the woke brigade whose principal tenet is America is the root of all evil.

    I grew up a stone's throw from the Canadian border, and knew as a very young man to watch my Ps & Qs when I was over there. In Canada. Let alone any Eastern block or Asian country.

    The extent to which she's screwed isn't entirely her fault; Brandon throwing billions at Ukraine pretty much guarantees she'll be locked up interminably, I would think. But cloaking herself in bullshit woke entitlement in one of the most corrupt & totalitarian countries in the world is all on her. Play woke games, win stupid prizes.

    Very hard lesson to learn. See, the United States is teaching these youngsters that there are no consequences to their actions. Liberal schooling. Burn down a government building. Don't worry. Democrats will bail you out and cover all of your legal fees so you can do it again.

    Doesn't work that way in foreign nations, especially Russia.

    Why should we trade the guy known as The Merchant of Death for her? Why should we trade anyone? Smuggling drugs is a SERIOUS crime which she KNOWINGLY engaged in. Why should the country, especially since she expresses such hate towards it, give up anything for her?

    I wouldn't walk into Iraq even with a magic wand to be able to instantaneously get out of Iraq....

    I also wouldn't expect to get 10 years for walking into Iraq with a beer... especially if I was charged as a beer trafficker for my single use beer...

    Why would you expect somebody to know every law in a different country you work in? I've lived in Virginia all of my life and I'm sure I don't know all of the laws here....

    I'm not questioning her guilt here, but I'd be highly suspicious of any sentence over 1 year for this...

    Why? Russia isn't bound by our sentencing guidelines or norms. They SHOULD lock her up for a time similar to what they'd sentence their own citizen to for the same offense, but Russia certainly isn't bound by what I think, nor by the typical slap-on-the-wrist sentences drug charges bring here in the US, and Biden has already lost pretty much all the leverage / influence we once had over Russia, so I expect they'll dl as they please with her.

    At the end of the day, it's still an American being held in an authoritarian state... a little genuine Patriotism would go a long way here...

    There are tons of people who would flourish over there in a system they admire more than our screwed up system...
