Generally speaking, children have to be protected and teaching resistance is not going to be that effective especially girls at 7 or boys at 11. One of the most effective methods of preventing this is the U.S. education system which key to reporting children who are do not report to school or reporting other crimes. Unfortunately, like law enforcement, sometimes protectors are involved in the crime and teachers tend to be demonized more often than not in the U.S.

Neither party is particularly good for this. The Republicans are prone to demonizing teachers discouraging the best candidates from joining while Democrats tend to push for lenient to no discipline at school causing a free-for-all in inner cities which prevent the easy early diagnosis of child abuse in young as well as very poor education.

But I am getting ads on my browser funded by the Qld govt about grooming - what it is and what to do about it. These ads are aimed at kids AND parents. Just the sheer number of people here on this board that talk about “grooming” being one passage of material in one book tells me America is in dire need of education on the subject

 

Australia is a wholly different continent. What you have there is not the same as here. Maybe parents in Australia are morally ignorant and need to be told not to groom their children? Maybe children roam around for hours without any supervision?

In the U.S. there are 3 primary means of trafficking groomed children - ages 1-11.

1. Be the parent or guardian of one.
2. Illegal immigrant children.
3. Go to another country.

Grooming usually occurs by parents at this age in the U.S. Gaining access to a child at those ages can usually only be done through parent's permission in the U.S. This is why the FBI agent pretended to be a parent.

The teenage years 13-17 is where most outside "grooming" occurs. At this point many parents may let their kid stay out quite late and may lose control of their kid altogether. Anyone of moderate means can relatively easily pick up someone who is rebelling against their parents. Once again, I don't see how educating the parent who has lost control or the child who is rebelling is going to help. It's best to educate the police as so that the fiasco in Britain doesn't occur again.

As for the books, I would say that the Planned Parenthood sex education book as well as similar books should not be readily available to children. I don't think it was anywhere but a high school library. Even so, checking it out should require parental consent.
