We never should have ever allowed the federal government to set salaries and compensation for anyone but federal government employees! The same goes for employees of the individual states!

"Civil Service" and "Private Enterprise" are two entirely different entities altogether....

While overall Real Disposable Personal Income has increased, the middle-class income and the poor growth has been more modest compared to upper-income households. Why did you fail to point that out about the usage of the REAL graph?

What do you take away from the real measure of the standard of living in the United States in the last 4 decades? Look at the Obama years. Look at the Trump years before the Democrats shut down the economy. Look at the Biden years.

Why do you have to compare your life to others? If everyone has more disposable income, why do you give a rat's ass how much money someone else has? Live your life.

What did I fail to point out?

You should take 5 minutes and actually read what I rebutted…

The totality of the committees finding is that they think the money will go to those at the top because low income people wont fill out the application. That the “application process” is too daunting for low income people, that they just wont fill it out, but the rich people will

    READ what they said

That is not a reason to not do a thing. They might revisit their application process and streamline it but to not fix a systemic problem because some people are too lazy is a poor excuse. Additionally, it's pretty crappy view of low income people's intellect.

But whats the problem ? Low income people are very used to filling out paperwork. They do it for every social program in this country. Wny would this be any different ?

My overall point is that the right is making a claim that the money will "go to those at the top", but their justification for why they claim that is beyond ridiculous. Their claim is that poor people wont fill out the application because they are lazy, or to dumb to do it, "therfore these programs will go to rich people" is laughable on its face. There are financial qualifications for this/these programs....

All due respect Par, but this is just more deflection from the right. Since when has the right been against giving money to rich people ? Their entire fiscal ideology is built on trickle down. So shouldn't this program fit right in their wheelhouse ?

There is no such thing as trickle down economics.

So it's the job of government to enforce conformity to your subjective morals an preferences when it comes to economics? If so, then why is it wrong to enforce conformity to social morals that you would oppose?

Other than the monetary fascism of the Federal Reserve which forces us to treat paper as money and allows for a massive wealth transfer to the plutocracy, there's nothing objectively immoral about wealth disparity.

Can you please share where you got this chart from? I believe it will come in handy but having the direct link to images is always easier.

The problem is that Biden is forgiving loans on people that should be making good money. They have their degrees and they have their big loans from bloated schools. Now they should be making big money, right? Why give these people a free ride? If they finished school, then they should know how to fill out a form.

Maybe I'm mixing up my topics of discussion but I thought that the topic was giving money to people because they have succeeded.

You failed to point out that your usage of the graph was misleading in suggesting that the middle class and the poor were sharing in the increases in real disposable income to a greater extent than you originally alleged.
On the other hand, should the heavy hand of the government continue its agenda of favoring the supply-side of the economy to the detriment of the economy as a whole? Are you suggesting that you reject the basic American principle of liberty and justice for all, or only for a select few?

Are you supportive of the corporate welfare state? A government of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich but not so much for the rest of the country.

Look, I m not a fan of college, and I think the cost is ridiculous. I didnt agree with student loan forgiveness, EXECPT for one aspect of it. Student loans actually take away from the economy by creating and indentured servitude of those who are paying back student loans. 90% of that money goes to the banks directly, and it hurts the overall economy because now their is less to money to spend. Thats where I think Biden sees it the same as you and I. The banks are actually making more on the interest payments than the colleges made with the principle amount.
Im not claiming that college is bad, but I dont think college is needed for many people, except for those who get advanced degrees. But to start your life with what is equal to a mortgage before you even buy a house is ridiculous, and it only benefits the banks.

Biden, and many in finance saw this as an oppertunityt o actually put that money to work in the economy, vs making the banks richer and richer

Why doesn't Biden address the actual problem which is the cost of a college education? I went to engineering school in the late 60's. My tuition was $300 per year.

What is the supply side of the economy?? How is the economy as a whole damaged?

Bill Clinton’s economic policies were supply side to the benefit of all US citizens. He reduced the capital gains tax rate by ~ 30%. Capital Gains tax revenue skyrocketed.

True, on one hand they whine about too much government interference, but try and get rid of the federal minimum wage and you would have riots in the streets.

Never said that. What I said is it puts more people in poverty than it pulls out. That is neither compassionate or good economics. I can require my whole post if you would like to read it again because I never said I agree with you nor did I say it doesn’t hurt anyone badly. The people it does hurt likely wouldn’t agree with you.

I am in support of no corporate welfare and no corporate tax. It discourages companies to do business in the US. The government is of the rich because we have a nonstop campaign system where every politician is looking for money all the time. It's disgusting that a Senator has to raise $10k a day, every day, for 6 years in order to land a job that pays $174,000 a year.

And even as it is, "minimum wage" does nothing to improve anyone's situation in the long term. It's been clearly demonstrated going back to the beginning of the Biden regime that a huge, disproportionate number of jobs that have supposedly been "created" have been government jobs... i.e., "civil service" jobs of one kind or another.

So -- as the pay scale for these comparatively well-compensated jobs continues to soar, the rate of inflation is 'stimulated' to do the very same thing. It's a skyward spiral that exhibits itself in the median price of a house in the U. S. being over $400,000 and ten-dollar hamburgers....

How can we get rid of devastating rates of inflation? Study the successful methods of two men in the early 1980's -- Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Paul Volcker, and President of the United States, Ronald Reagan. It involved more than two years, but between them they took the necessary action to make certain that monstrous inflation wasn't a problem again for decades afterwards....

    But the Federal Reserve today...?

I agree 1000% that we need to do something about the cost of a college education. But I dont know what that is. For me the real issue is that it is “financed” and that financing exacerbates the costs to the point where it then becomes a 30yr albatross around the necks of those who get them.

I read an study from Franklyn Universty that said the avergage cost (AVERAGE) was:
$27,940 per year at public state School - in state tuition
$45,240 per year at public state school - out of state tuition
$57,550 per year at private school

This study was just tuition, no books, fees, living expenses, ANYTHING. So if you go to a public school, in-state you leave that school in 4 years, and you now have a monthly payment of (averaged)

In state: $630 per month for 30 years
Out of state: $1079 per month for 30 years
Private: $1380 per month for 30 years

Now how do you buy a house, or in reality even participate in the economy when you start life with a mortgage and nowhere to live. And if you want to buy a house you now qualify for less house, and that student loan money counts against you on your credit score, then add your mortgage, which the average in (30y fixed) 2024 is $2883.

So basically you start off life owing $4k per month and you havent even found a job yet !

Lack of corporate taxation is a form of corporate welfare. Let's not forget that a corporation is a government-created entity that derives all its privileges and rights from the government.
I share your concerns about the US political system's reliance on raising money to run for public office.
