Beau of the Fifth column covered this

HE remembers what happened in 1970 in Ohio and as he points out that calling out the guard is the responsibility of the governor.

Beau speaks of ‘the manual” referring to a standard manual for dealing with protests/ uprisings and history and research show sending troops in escalates protests

History repeats - let’s hope not!

The governor could send in the National Guard.

Biden could send in the National Guard by federalizing it, but then he is restricted in its use by the Posse Comitatus Act. He might as well send the 82nd Airborne instead. The 82nd and 101st were used by Lyndon Johnson in Detroit 1967 after Governor Romney had used the National Guard unsuccessfully.

The governor is too busy trying to give American NYC construction jobs away to illegals.

Besides, I thought that the National Guard was busy patrolling the NY Subways.

They have not learned their lesson. Nothing exacerbated the protests in the 70s like the Kent massacre.

I believe that Republicans think this may be something that will benefit them in November. And it might, unless Biden takes a much stronger stance against Netanyahu. Biden must strongly call for the Israeli people to oust the murderous fascist before it's too late.

Republicans have nothing else to run on. So they'll exploit this unless Biden makes a bold move in the right direction.

Let the universities handle it. They are flush with cash. Hiring enough security to keep the peace should be up to their management.
Phoenix University, Walden University, Aspen University ... are looking better every day.

Imagine if you are paying these huge tuitions and your whole education if blown up by these demonstrators.

In May of 1970, which was a similar situation, at my campus, it disrupted classes for a day. Part of it fell over a weekend, which allowed things to simmer down. I think this has gone on for a week and is going to continue for the rest of the school term.

I recall both demonstrations for the US government (Cuban missile crisis) and against (Vietnam War).

    How quickly things changed.

The terrorists are getting the bombs. Maybe they shouldn't be terrorists?

Student demonstrate but usually nothing happens. In this case it really blew up because the protest was anti-Israel, which is popularly equated with anti-Semitism and because there were minor clashes between anti and pro-Israeli demonstrators.

So the media got into the act. Politicians expressed outrage. Big donors objected. The president of Columbia panicked and called the cops.

With the media coverage, other universities couldn't help but also get in on the action.

    I think something is happening

Anti-Israeli demonstrators are groups like KKK and Proud Boys fascists.... Usually they clash with AntiFa. But demonstrators belong to neither of those. They just want to stop the slaughter in Palestine.

And yet the only thing they are stopping is the development of their own brains.

I think developing their sense of justice and humanity is MORE important than developing their brains. It's the ONLY way for this country to avoid a repeat of a future Trump-like moral debacle. So no time has been wasted.

Besides... they're young. Their whole life is ahead of them. They CAN walk and chew gum at the same time.

Palestine? Or do you mean Gaza? I've been seeing some pretty ugly stories in the news about these protesters, they're carrying Hamas flags, a sign that said 'final solution,' and a few calling for the death of zions - and the schools don't seem to care. So I'm here thinking that eventually this crap will escalate until the NG needs to be called in.

I'm pretty sure if all these protesters were protesting against child mutilation or the illegal alien invasion, the news coverage would be entirely different, the responses from democrats would be entirely different, and the reactions of the colleges would be entirely different.

I guess you didn't see the video of the women who were protesting but didn't know what they were protesting. Remember, these students will be the people who design future planes that you will fly in, the drugs you will take and the surgeons who operate on you.

    Gaza is part of Palestine.

As I have said in several of my posts, I remember in the 70s protesters carrying Vietcong and Soviet flags. There are extremists everywhere.

Yep! Definitely sounds like KKK and the Proud Boys.

Sometimes we lament that Antifa is just a myth and not a real group. This is when they're needed.

Morality and justice are not based on emotions. They’re based on logical rational judgement calls which require brains.

In any case however, I’m glad we can agree that the students do need to develop them and therefore should probably shut the hell up, go back to class, and start doing that.

This guy needs MAGA in his life.

Columbia anti-Israel encampment ringleader Khymani James rages ‘Zionists don’t deserve to live’ in newly resurfaced video

A ringleader of Columbia University’s anti-Israel encampment is under fire after newly resurfaced video showed the student publicly raging that “Zionists don’t deserve to live.”

Khymani James, who says they go by “he/she/they” pronouns, made the disturbing remarks during a meeting with university officials back in January, which the student livestreamed and then blasted out on social media.

“Zionists don’t deserve to live comfortably, let alone Zionists don’t deserve to live,” the student filmed themselves saying.

No, they sound like Nazis. All it would take in just one MAGA to say something similar and the left's world would erupt and they'd blame conservatives everywhere, Biden would probably even campaign on it.

They are based on all of the above.

BTW, interesting way to signal you ran out of arguments to continue the debate: by saying we agree on the opposite of what I said.

    Have a good weekend!

What Mike Johnson said about the Columbia protesters, he could have easily said about some of his own Republican House members.
Mike Johnson has allowed lawless agitators and radicals to take over the GOP House caucus.
Mike Johnson has failed to control “heinous acts of bigotry” by some members of the GOP House caucus.
"As speaker of the House, I am committing today that the Congress will be silent and supportive of the thugs, animals, criminals, and other dregs of our society who attacked Congress on 1/6/2021, and forced its members who had to run for their lives in fear," Mike Johnson could have said.

Incorrect, or else our emotional revulsion at seeing someone die would all be treated with equal consequences. We don’t because our sense of morality and justice result in our determination that not all deaths are the same and thus all must be treated according to circumstance.

Emotion might be helpful in guiding us toward right and wrong but it can just as easily guide us to doing and justifying the worst of atrocities and immoralities. Which is why we use brains, and brains only.
